Questions about male yorkies I had a female yorkie who passed away, but I loved putting bows in her hair and all the "girly" stuff! Do many people do this with males? My husband said everyone will think he is a female...but I have seen males w/bows. Also, at what age do you think yorkies stop growing? I do not plan on getting him fixed anytime soon. He's so beautiful I may want to breed him one day. Thanks for your input! :yorkieboy: |
I have boy looking bows that I got from Darlinbeaux.com. I use those on him. But I also ususally have him in a definite "guy" style shirt or sweater then too. Good luck. |
I see many male yorkies with bows and they look very handsome- I don't put bows in either of my kids hair (girl or boy) because they rip them right out  Yorkies can stop growing anytime between 7-12 months- some keep growing a little more after even. I would say both of mine stopped around 10-12 months but it is pretty individual based on the dog. I hope you will consider going to the breeding forum and read all the information on breeding- all the yorkies here on YT are gorgeous but most should not be reproducing puppies. |
I put bows in my Bogey's hair almost every day. :) As for making the choice to breed him my suggestion would be to do some serious research regarding this endeavor. Males used for breeding (even once) have a tendency to mark, many have a change in personality not to mention the fact that their are health risk associated with unaltered males as they get older. |
My boys wear pretty bows every day. I just order ones I like. They don't seem to mind pink satin with sparkly crystals. They divas more than my female. As for breeding, I would never breed my boys and had all my dogs fixed as puppies. |

My boys wear boy colored scrunchies and harnesses, and people still think they are girls. |
Your own preference I have two males & two females. I groom them differently. The girl's hair is longer for bows. The boys are kept shorter (no bows). I just want people to know the difference because my boys are definitely boys & my girls are little divas!! Do what YOU want to do... your own preference! |
My boy gets mistaken for a girl often, but then he's the one with the long silky coat whereas my girl has the cottony coat and the hair on her head is so fine, it's hard to keep a bow in it without tangling it all up an pulling hair out. I personally, do try to get boy colored bows for him and we use a lot of scrunchies. I have all my babies fixed (2 yorkies, boy and girl, and 1 girl peke, my old gal). Breeding is a calling and it's not for everyone. |
I have a boy and I put top knots in all the time but I also make sure he is wearing boy clothing. I do not think Scooter could pass for a girl because he just looks like a boy. My babies are spoiled :littleangRIP Sophie Lynn Mommy loves and misses you |
I wouldn't do a boy bow. he does have a pink sweater, given by a friend. I don't like to take him out in that one. I just like people knowing he is a boy. |
You dress him like a boy and when you take him to the vet for all the testing before breeding...then you take a snap shot of the vet's face to post on here...when the vet see he is a he...:D...and you ensure he's of breeding quality...cross dressing isn't an exclusion IMO. I'm soooo opinionated I know...anywho...my Scoobers was listed as a girl and when I picked him up they informed me he had just been altered and they realized he was listed incorrectly...he was a he...good thing I had everything in camo...pink camo of course....:p |
my boy I have skull and crossbone bows for my lil tyke ! too funny....and YES of course put boy like bows in his hair, I have for years with all males I've owned. there are some great sites online for boy bows.... abbie |
1 Attachment(s) Males do wear bows. A look at show dogs is proof positive. My poor little Emmitt also models an occasional dress for me :D:D. I call him my little cross-dresser. |
It really is a matter of preference. Some people will exclaim never in a million years will they pit a bow on their boy's hair. I use to be one of them. :p I didn't want to do bows because I didn't want people to honk he was a girl. Well... I had Kaji in a really short puppy cut. He was super cute! Yet, everyone always asked me if he was a girl, even though with his short cut his Mr Peeper was really obvious. That's when I decided that it doesn't matter. People will think what they want, make nasty comments if they want (my brother does, and they're really hurtful) and I can't stop them. But I can enjoy my yorkie, and Kaji doesn't mind one bit having his hair up or down and let's me put his hair in a Pony tail, a "ninja knot", and a hairclip. :) |
Mr. pepper...ninja knot :lol tears Quote:
