Help!!!!!! To be or not to be a purebred Yorkie? That is the question.
 

Is the puppy below a purebred? My brother-in-law purchased for his wife and hopes to breed with my daughters AKC puppy. The snout looks very wide although I am not by any means a Yorkie expert but I did my due diligence and purchased from a reputable breeder. Can this puppy in the pic possibly be a purebred Yorkshire Terrier? I have never seen a 12 week old male Yorkie who resembles their new arrival at all. Please advice?

Well...it looks like a Yorkie to me. Some times you can get puppies that grow any where from 1lb to 15lbs. The standard calls for 1-7lbs, but if they are not interested in showing the puppy then any size is do able for a pet.

smaller yorkies have smaller faces...bigger yorkies have longer noses. This puppies ears are down, but may go up with time. And some times they never do.

Did your brother n law see this puppy's mother and fathers pedigree???

He looks like a purebred Yorkie. But he looks like he may be a little large as an adult and doesnt look to be breeder quality. He should make a wonderful pet though.

He sure is cute:) But does not look to be 12 weeks old, he looks full grown by his coloring/coat and size. From what I've seen, not breeding stock for sure, sorry:(

Did they not recieve any papers for him?

That is my thought too.

He is very cute and look to be all Yorkie.

...however, breeding require a lot of research, experience and testing to make sure both are good candidates.

Just bc they are both Yorkies and are a male and female, doesn't mean they should breed. Please don't add to the mix, we have so many Yorkies out there in this country needing homes.

Spay and Neuter and LOVE them as the pets they just want to be :thumbup:

He looks all yorkie to me except that he'll likely be closer to the 15lb range as an adult. I have seen pups prior to the colour breaking at 12-14 weeks with the same kind of snout, face, down ears, etc, who came from 8-10 lb parents who appeared perfectly proportioned like what the standard Yorkshire Terrier looked like back when they were a larger breed. The offsprings may very well grow to be larger than their mom and dad.

If your girl is within the AKC breed standard of 7 lbs and under, I'd be concerned about pairing the two as that pup, if he hasn't already outgrown your girl, he will get twice as big especially if he is still just 12 weeks young now. That being the case, his offspring will likely get as big boned and I'd worry about the safety of your little girl carrying the pups to term. And this is with the assumption that your brother's pup didn't just happen to be the SMALLEST one of his litter so then, he could have even bigger genes to pass on. :eek:

If you MUST breed, please find yourself one, or ask your brother to do so, a girl who will be guaranteed to be larger than his male pup as adults. That way you know her line were all 15+ lb'ers and wouldn't need to worry as much about your brother's male throwing offsprings too large for the mama's uterus to carry safely and to deliver healthy. Also, from the ones I've seen and also read, the larger yorkies tend to give you 6-9 puppies in one litter! :eek: That's a whole lot of dog and potty accidents to clean up. :eek:
