What type of Flea/Tick preventative do you use on your Yorkie?? I am having a hard time choosing a flea/tick preventative and reading so many threads on this fabulous site has made me more confused. Please list an side effects that have occured and/or why you like/dislike any of these. Much Appreciated!!! |
I USED To use Revolution but after a few members pointed out some studies that showt he death rate is higher in this than others (However, it could just be because it is more widely used) I have decided to use Interceptor this year which is just for heartworm- no flea/tick. Layla is not an "outdoorsey" kinda gal and I feel the pros out weight the cons for us- I like to use AS LITTLE meds as possible and will probably use an herbal remedy if we are going to be outside in the bush- lol which i don't see us doing :p |
I use the puppy Revolution. Rosie had very adverse reactions to Frontline and Advantage. She deals with Revolution and doesn't go crazy. |
I've tried Frontline Plus and K9 Advantix and both made her extremely ill and caused her to vomit. She also has flea allergies so she is now on Comfortis and I love it!! I just put it in her food dish or wrap it in cheese and she gobbles it up. No vomiting and no fleas!! |
I've used many. I really like advantage and it has worked well. I am changing to comfortis this year because it's oral and should last longer since the advantage washes off after I bathe them a couple times and I like to bathe the dogs once a week. I've been hearing good things about comfortis. Didn't like frontline at all. Large amount of liquid that left a sticky residue and it didn't work well for us. I don't like revolution because it is for heartworms too but is the least effective of the heartworm preventatives. I've also used prometis and it worked but it also left a sticky residue. Can't stand the sticky residue. |
i agree im also confussed on what flea medicine to use for my pups |
does k9 advantix cause liver enzymes to be high? |
I prefer herbal remedies since I don't like to use chemicals on Cash. I used to put eucalyptus oil in his shampoo until I found a good herbal shampoo in the shop. Now, I just mix some of the oil with water and spray in around the room. This makes all the filthy fleas flee!! (Hehe, can you tell I am studying to be a writer?) I used Frontline and other products when he was younger, but I hate the sticky residue. |
Maggie has a flea allergy and frontline didn't work fast or long enough so we switched to Comfortis and are very happy with it. |
I use Frontline Plus only if it is absolutely necessary after a Dawn bath. I also would consider Advantage and Sentinel depending on our needs at the time because they don't all actually kill fleas. Ticks are not an issue here. I do not like Revolution for the reasons stated above and would not trust it for heartworm protection. Comfortis is probably fine but it is very new and I would like to wait longer to see reaction reports. Advantix contains permethrin which I try to avoid but it may not be avoided if you have ticks. The things used in natural products can cause side effects too and I just don't trust them. I'm sure there are a few good ones out there though. |
I'm so glad i'm not the only one thats confused on what to use on my little one. The more i read..the more i get confused. :( |
Hmmm, I know this can be confusing but do any of you have specific questions? We can probably help. |
Our vet recommended Revolution for puppies since Izzy's weight fluctuates around 3#. I like it because it's both flea and heartwarm and so easy to use. Marci interesting info you posted. I had no idea about the Revolution. We also use it year-round and have to since fleas are always a problem in our area. |
