Best food for Yorkies I am so confused about food, maybe this will educate us. |
There is no one answer to this.:) Kibble feeders think kibble is best. Canned feeders think canned is best. Homecookers think homecooking is best. Raw feeders think raw food is best. I prefer homecooked and really wouldn't want to feed raw. If I fed kibble it might be Natural Balance. If I fed canned it might be Evangers. I suggest getting a recipe from a nutritionist if you homecook. As for raw, I don't know what I'd use but if I fed prey model I'd get the help of a nutritionist. |
That's well said, without offending anyone. :):) |

For me, I use Solid Gold. I've learned a lot from YT considering I used to use Nutro until I joined this site and really did some research on it and found out (in my opinion) that it wasn't all that great. I'm happy with using Solid Gold as is Sasha. I may be paying a little more, but at least it makes her happy. :) |
I feed raw, but I think a good diet can be achieved many ways. I think what's *most* important is that a person understands a carnivorous diet and what that means to digestion. Second, I think it's important to choose the best possible ingredients and avoid allergens as best you can; all dogs are now terribly set up for allergies due to overvaccination and generations of poor diets. Last, learn what you can about where the food is coming from - who is the company behind it, and where do their ingredients come from, etcetera. If you keep those things top of mind, I don't think you can really go wrong. :) |
Diet I feed Lily Pure Vita by Nutri Source. It is a holistic product. There are no byproducts. I get the duck and oatmeal and Lily loves it. |
I feed Royal Canine for Juniors or Yorkshire Terriers, but she seemed a bit itchy after that so I have switched to Eucanuba. She seems to be doing well on it. Now I am not sure if to switch back to Royal Canine since she is running out of Eucanuba. She seems to stop eating after a while and needs a change. She is a poor eater but when she gets new food it usually keeps her going for a month or two and then she slows down again and wants something else. On special occasions she gets fried liver, but if I give her this she eats too fast and sometimes throws it all up as she can't digest it all, so smaller portions are the key with Tara. She is used to snacking on dry food all day long so when she gets real meat she is so excited she wants to eat it all in once but her small stomach can't take it because she is used to snacking small bits here and there. |
My girls get Primal Raw in the morning and Homecook salmon with sweet potatos(receipe formulated by the nutrionist) at night. I like giving them variety. |
Dog Food Analysis - Reviews of kibble this site gives the low down (rates) on many different brands out there. you want a 4 star or higher. Hope that helps! |
Actually I think it depends on what your dog will eat and any allergies they have. I like many different styles of feeding and wouldn't be adverse to feeding raw or homecooked when done properly ( although dh didn't want raw) Our choice was determined by what they ate best and what we honestly felt we had the time to do right now. We feed Wellness Core kibble and canned. I also think Natural Balance is a good choice , as well as Natures Variety . |
My baby is 10 weeks old tomorrow and right now he is eating Natural Balance. He doesn't particularly like it dry so I've been adding a small amount of water to it and heating it up in the microwave and he's been gobbling it right up. |
We have Bella and Mya on Blue Buffalo Puppy going to Blue Wilderness when they are old enough. |
I have had Tricksie on Life's Abundance for 4 months and she is doing great. |
Hi, my Zander has always been a picky eater, like you mentioned, eating a bag of food then when I get the same one after he runs out, he acts like he does not like it .... I changed him to California Naturals, California Natural Dog Food, Natural Cat Food & Nutritious Dog Treats – Natura Pet Products he eats without being prompted, eats it all up, phew. |
I feed Nature's Variety raw for breakfast and free feed NV Instinct the rest of the day. I have one that's allergic to chicken and another with a sensitive tummy, so we went through a lot of choices before finding one that worked for all four! |
