Xray or Ultrasound or both? Curious and doing research.... for all breeders out there, do you do an xray or an ultrasound or both or neither? Just curious. Please feel free to expand on this as I'm interested in hearing why. Thanks! |
On litters where there is a specific concern I'll do whichever the vet recommends. If there is no reason to suspect a problem I do neither. |
Had I known this was for breeders only I would not have voted. I voted x-ray. |
Where are the breeders out there???? Yoo hoo! :p |
I chose x-rays. I believe that they are more reliable than ultrasounds. Case in point...Gracie's first litter. Took her in to have an ultrasound done. Vet said that he only saw one pup...she spit out 4!!! |
X-ray only! Why spend the extra money so early in the pregnancy that no information results. I usually x-ray about 4 to 5 days before due date to see how many to expect and if there is a chance of a c-section. |
I do the ultrasound to confirm that my girl is indeed pregnant and to watch her diet. I do the xray to confirm the number of puppies to expect and to know when to call the vet. It also tells us if the puppies will be too big for mom to deliver. |
x-rays I do the x-ray to make sure there is no problems and how many to expect because they always start delivering when its bed time:rolleyes::rolleyes: |
before i stopped breeding i was doing both, i had a litter (my first) that i had x-ray and it showed 4 pups. when she whelped there were only 2 and they were too big. the first out stuck and i had to remove pup. from then on i always did both to make sure i didnt have a small litter with huge babies. :D |
My little girl has had two litters. I did xray on both a few days before delivery date to find out how many puppies and to see if everything was ok. The xrays was right both times on how many puppies. |
bumping this up...anyone else? |
I chose x-ray though i heard myths that they can get the mom/ or pups sick... however they are just myths my vet told me. I had to get an xray on my dog and the first one we got done, we were told that she was having 5 pups and then the vet wanted to take a 2nd one because he had to do a C-section and he wanted a different view before the procedure. The second picture showed 7 pups! |
