Do you leave a collar on at all times.. or what do you do? Just wondering how many people leave a collar with ID on it at ALL times.. What does everyone do.. & what size are your babies?! ;) |
We do the Harness (with id) only for walks ..... or when we are going to be out of the house ..... |
We Leave Jj's Collar On All The Time, But When He Is Going Out For A Walk Or In The Car We Always Use A Harness. The Collar Is Only For His Tags In Case He Gets Away From Us When We Open The Door:d He Seems To Get Faster All The Time. He Is 3 Years Old. |
Ellie wears her harness outside but I usually put the tags on only when we are going away. I'm not recommending this but we don't like to fight with them on her harness all the time.:) |
Kayla and Gypsy both wear collars with ID tags on all the time and then we use a harness for walks. Mine wear them because if they get out the front door or through the gate then at least they have ID on them. I would hate for them to get out and then no one know who they belong to and they taken to the pound. :( As careful as you try to be to make sure they don't get out they are very first and sometimes it does happen. |
My babies go without a collar and harness when they are at home. They only wear them when we go out of the house. The rings that attach the tags to the collar can get caught on their teeth, as can the collar if it is not a perfect fit. Dangerous IMO to leave collars on unattended. I would be more comfortable leaving a harness with ID on unattended. |
Gwen wears her collar w/ ID on at all times, she is only walked on a harness though, that way if she gets loose she still has her collar and ID on it. She is 13 weeks old tomorrow and weighs 3 pounds 10 ounces. So I'm thinking she'll be a little under 7 when she is full grown. |
my babies wear a collar with id tags at all times. the harness goes on when we are outside going for a walk. Baylee was 2.3 pounds last wk when we took her to the vet and Bruno was 7.8 pounds |
Thanks for all the responses!! So far.. the poll seems to be going as i thought it would: - harness with tags for walks/outings only & - collar with tags on at all times.. **i would LOVE to hear what some of the "OTHER's" are!!? ;) **also.. the people who answered Collars with ID tags at all times.. what are the sizes of your babies? and do you use regular collars or the breakaway/cat ones?? thanks!! ;) ;) |
I just have a toy dog collar that I found at Wal-Mart sized appropriately for her. Her tag is a small heart and she also has a little bell so I can hear her "tinkle" when she is behind me. I was pretty unimpressed with collar sizes at our local PetSmart though. |
Starsky is my teapot and he wears a black leather collar with bones on it, He has his rabies tag and Id tag, He weighs around 12 lbs and is 3 yrs old Shylah is my little one and she wears a pink leather collar with bones on it. She has her rabies tag and Id tag, she weighs around 41/2 pounds and is 2 years old. They both are also microchipped. I harness them when we go anywhere. |
JJ is 3 years old, about 7-8 pounds, his collar is a "toy" size that i got at walmart. he only has it for his tags, id, rabies etc. he has several harness, printed, webbing etc. that we walk him with and use in the car. :D |
Hobbs and Hootie wear kitty breakaway collars with ID tags 24/7 in case they get away from us. I walk them on a harness. They are 3 years old, 4.5lbs, and 2.5 years old, 3.5lbs, respsectively. |
Marcel is 3.3-3.4. Wylie is 7.5. They are chipped and have collars with tags (only for id purposes) at ALL times. There are people in my area who have said "what is a microchip???" - so, that's really all I need to know. I've used collars/tags on all my pets for 35 years and have never had a single issue. You do have to fit a tag differently on a small dog vs. a big dog. You only want to be able to just fit a pinky btwn the collar and the neck for a small dog (NOT 2 fingers!). If fitted properly, it should be safe. Of course, we've read about freak accidents even here on YT, but still - my boys will always have their tags on. :) |
Microchip............. I was thinking about getting Gwen microchipped, but I've heard that they have studies linking it to cancer/tumors at the chip site? So I dunno if I will get her tattooed instead, not certain. No one around here offers tattooing to my knowledge but I know I can get her chipped, just worried about the cancer thing........Anyone else heard about that? |
