what do you feed- attempt 2! let's try this again! With all the threads lately about dog food and with all the recalls in the past year, i'm interested to see what everyone feeds now. When you answer, please vote for what you feed 80% of the time (ie. I home cook but i'd say Layla gets kibble 1-2% of the time, so i would vote, home cooked, not "combo") If you do feed a combo (let's say one meal home cooked and one meal kibble) please let us know what the combo is |

Wellness for my pack. |
Izzy is on The Honest Kitchen which is a freeze-dried raw for dinner and sometimes I add in some Gerber Stage 2 Organic veggies, plus she gets her organic yogurt in the morning.:D |
Merrick - Puppy plate wet canned (2-3 times a day) (this stuff is really gourmet...I even tasted it)...I know sounds gross...but I figured if I was going to feed it to her...I wanted to know! and Wellness kibble (available to her 24hrs a day) |
We feed The Honest Kitchen - freeze-dried raw. Very different from PREY model or BARF diets. |
Little Man & Odie gets dry kibble 95% of the time. They get the other 5% from what Tawny don't eat. Tawny gets a mixture of dry kibble and water, as her little teeth are almost like nubs but very sharp! I buy online and petsmart...Nature's Recipe. Odie was on Kibble & Bits and I've been gradually changing him over to Nature's Recipe. |
I buy Natural Balance Organic (which went up $2.00 since Nov) and add fresh veggies and white meat chicken to it. Kibble and chicken in the am and kibble, chicken and veggies in the pm. I cook a family pack of chicken breast (8 pieces of boneless breast) every two weeks and keep it frozen. Just take one out in the am from the freezer and it's ready for dinner. |
well i know what some say about this but here goes...Smokey and Ally eat Nutro Natural Choice...Lamb Meal and Rice Fromula (dry kibble)....Ally eats it 100% of the time and Smokey eats it 90% of the time....we allow him ...(and if it's wrong then it's just wrong)...to eat some table food....meats and some potatoes...he loves mac and cheese.....and plain potato chips....and the vet always makes a comment at how good his coat and teeth look... |
wellness turkey (lil bit of cottage cheese) and mix of boiled chicken/beef with green beans/noodles |
Miko and Emma get homecooked meals :) We cook once a month and freeze in 2-3 day portions. |
I home cook only. With all the dead diseased animals, lab animals and road kill that go into the making of dog food, only to be processed over and over again, it's no wonder that dog food now is more of a major risk and is why you see all the recalls and sick pets with serious health problems. It never ceases to amaze me how people claim their fur-kids are their babies that they love just as much as any other family member, and yet given the information on how dog food is made, they choose to feed it anyway. Personally I'd never feed anything to my dogs that I wasn't allowed to see the rendering plant and how the food is made. |
1 Attachment(s) Bella eats the Honest kitchen (force) which others have already described. But, since I love it so much i will tell you why! The ingredients are: Hormone-free chicken, organic flaxseed, potatoes, celery, sweet potatoes, apples, alfalfa, organic kelp, honey, zucchini, green beans, cabbage, bananas, papayas, yogurt, basil, garlic and rosemary. I like the wheat free products because it helps prevent chronic ailments (arthritis, diabetes, degenerative joints) related to the consumption of glutinous grains. I am hoping Bella will live a long time and she will not be in pain when she gets older!! Bella gets 1/4 cup dry (it increases in size when water is added). Just to change up the flavors I will add different things and textures to make it different for her. Although it is not required, i add a teaspoon of chopped chicken liver, a heaping teaspoon of cottage cheese, a tbs of sweet potatoe or maybe diced peaches mixed with yogurt. The website also has recipes for stews and things you can top the HK with. Since I only feel this once a day which I think is half the recommended amount, I free feed innova kibble too. I leave down a very small bowl 1/2 cup) incase she gets hungry. It takes her about 4 days to eat this. Just incase you cant tell I am reaaaaaaaaaaaal excited about the honest kitchen!!! |
Jamie's on NV Raw. |
I homecook but I leave kibble out. I also give canned when I am too tired to cook |
