Canned definitely. I will never feed kibble again. And kibble does not benefit the teeth...the grains and carbs stick to the teeth and cause plaque and tarter just like canned food does. It would be like us eating cookies and cereal and expecting them to clean our teeth...they just don't and neither does kibble. The idea that kibble cleans teeth is a myth. The only diet that cleans the teeth is a prey-model raw diet. Canned food is less processed and overcooked, and the moisture makes it a lot closer to what a dog was designed to eat. |
OK, uncle! Sounds like a lot of knowledgeable people prefer canned. I guess I don't understand the whole teeth thing with kibble. When I got Rusty, he was on canned. The vet on examination said his teeth were bad and he would need a teeth cleaning soon. I switched him to a high-quality kibble. Three months later, the vet told me he no longer needed a cleaning. He told me, "I don't know what you're doing, but it's working." All I did was switch to kibble, so I assumed it was the chewing of the kibble, but maybe it's something else? Like enzymes created from a higher quality food? I honestly don't know. But I know that his flatulence is also gone, and he hasn't had a bout with diarrhea since I stopped supplementing the kibble with canned. He had terrible incontinence for a while. But those things could all be because a high-quality kibble is better than a low-quality canned. I dunno. Also, were any of the canned proponents worried during the Menu Foods scare? I was awfully happy that I was on a kibble when that was going on because that was virtually all canned or packaged wet food. |

So far as best foods to feed go, a raw diet is #1 to me. Homecooked is #2. Premium grain-free canned is #3. Premium canned (w/ grain) is #4 and then premium kibble after that. I feed a raw diet...the only one of my pet's that gets any canned at all is one of my cats who gets some canned in the evening (and I only do this because I get a lot of the Evo grain-free canned for free...saves me a little money by feeding her the canned for one meal). |
canned kibble and home cooking.. lexi's coat is very shiny , her teeth are great , and her breath is perfect |
Canned:) I think kibble will win on this poll though because that is what vets push. Whatever you feed, their teeth need to be brushed. |

Canned or Kibble Quote:
If she gets just canned, her poop is too messy and she hates poop on her rear. |
OH EllieMay and MyFairLacy, don't beat me up too badly. |

I will say that I would not feed Pedigree because the ingredients are terrible and I would not feed Evo because it is WAY too high in fat for Yorkies and could set them up for pancreatitis. |
I feed both kibble and canned Brand... canidae |
So canned feeders: Is your pup's stool soft? I decided to test it out and mix it with Eddie's kibble for his birthday. The result has been a soft stool. |

Some just can't handle canned and others just need the "right" kind.l Ellie gets soft food (homecooked) all the time and her stool is usually pretty normal. I wonder if adding raw vegetables to the canned would firm up the stool. |
