Kibble or Holistic food diet Hi guys my husband and i are having a minor debate he has read online that Holistic diet is so much better for your dog than kibble. I have done some research and everything i read involves LARGE breeds do any of you do the Holistic diet or have you heard anything about it? |
I feed both of my dogs a raw diet. Dozer has been on a raw diet for about 7 months now and I just switched Bailey over last month. I've researched dog foods for awhile now and the improvments that a raw diet brings is so worth the time and effort it takes to feed a raw diet. I definitely recommend it to anyone who has the time/space  |
I think that kibble is probably best for yorkies because it helps keep their teeth clean and helps with the common dental problems that yorkies have. I mean, Royal Canin for yorkies has specially constructed kibble to help clean their teeth. I would see if you can find anything that talks about dental problems in relation to a holistic diet in small breeds and read about what they say! Also, talk to our vet. I bet he would have good advice on it! :) |
Well we only feed Gucci Natural Balance. I think that the kibble is good for her teeth. I don t know much about holistic food. Is the Raw diet consider Holistic? |

If you had to chew, chew, chew, chew 50 times to get one bite of food off, your teeth would be pretty clean too. And since their jaw can get tired from chewing, they use their canines and front teeth to pull at the meat.. BTW this doesn't work with cooked meat, because cooked meat has no elasticity and is easy to chomp apart. |
I tried the premade raw medallions that you can buy in the store for awhile, but Bentley (aka Mr. Picky) got sick of it after awhile. Now I feed them half Innova small bites and half Innova Evo (which is supposed to have the same benefits as the raw diet and it is mostly protein so they LOVE it). I still consider them to be on a pretty holistic diet as their food is very healthy. |
I was told never to feed my yorkies beef. Their digestive systems just cannot handle it. A little chiken or turkey every once is a while is okay but only boiled and bland. There is a high rate of pancreatitis in these small breed dogs when they are fed too rich a diet. I think a holistic kibble is the way to go full of nutrients but good for the teeth and the sensitive digestive system. JMHO |
In all my work with dogs I have heard alot of positive and negative about feeding holitic or raw diets. I prefer to keep my dogs on kibble. Although, once a week they all get chicken breast, egg whites, and wild rice with some green beans. Its really good for thier coat and digestion. When Recon was younger he would throw up everything he ate, so we took him in and the vet had us put him on a blan diet which included all of the above plus a blan kibble. Made a huge difference in him. Much more energy since he gets his home cooked meal weekly and his coat is much nicer. I have also noticed Memphis' coat looks nicer and he is more energetic also. Preslee only gets a very little bit of all the above but she loves it and I will continue to feed them it. My vet reccomended the diet that all my dogs are on so I am pretty comfortable with it. |
