Ok a little history about this pic. This is Lollie and her sister Baby Ruth playing with Little Orphan Annie. We found Annie in the road late one night laying over the dead body of her sister with no mother in sight. She was very young, in fact she was still in her nursing stage. We couldn't leave her there to die a long slow death, so we brought her home, cleaned her up and spent the next 8 months raising her and getting her ready to live her life as it should be - as a wild animal. Annie disappeared for almost two years and then last summer we were overjoyed to see her sneaking kitty food at the barn. It was a reward experience but please note that Raccoons are forever wild animals, and can carry dangerous diseases we were lucky and very careful before introducing ANYONE animal or human to Annie to give plenty of time for the wormers to work on the nasty worms they can carry and to be sure she wasn't infected with rabies. Annie loved to play with the girls, never hurt them and would play chase running from the girls, then after them, and then they would have a fun wrestling match. So... what in the world were Lollie and Baby Ruth thinking? |

1st pic Wez fercious hunters, Annie, n wez treed youz n youz better stayed treed. 2nd pic What fun is youz getting into now, Annie? Can I has fun wif youz? Side note, we raised a baby racoon nearly every summer, growing up due to my fathers work. We'd bottle feed them & keep them in a cage until they were big enough to take care of themselves. Then we'd leave the door to the cage open and they'd come and go all throughout the summer. Our dogs always loved playing with them. By fall, they'd be mature enough to go out on their own and we wouldn't see them any more. |
What a wonderful story, bless you for taking care of Annie when she need you. We had a raccoon one summer in my teens at our campground until it was time for school and then we rehomed him to a sweet older gentleman who took great care of him. He lived a long happy life and I have some great memories of that summer with Cooder ! First Pic: Lollie: Why I Atta ..... Ruth: Yikes, Oh crap Run . .. Run . . . Run !!
