While it might not be what everyone was hoping for, the Nikon D800 ($3,000) is sure to make a lot of shooters out there very, very happy.

Designed with resolution heads in mind, the D800 features a whopping 36.3-megapixel full-frame sensor that will likely cause sleepless nights for some medium format cameras, the 91,000-pixel 3D Color Matrix Metering III sensor, an improved 51-point AF system, full 1080p video capture with professional features like uncompressed HDMI output, full manual control, and a dedicated headphone jack for accurate monitoring of audio levels, a 3.2-inch LCD monitor, 4 fps shooting — 6 fps with the optional battery pack — SD and CF card slots, and the Expeed 3 image processing engine. Arriving in late March, but you'd best get your pre-orders in now.

Well, the GOOD thing is the pro model features eventually trickle down to the consumer grade SLRs in a few years... :)

Your dad is a funny guy. I'm very happy with the camera I use already, but I thought that when I was going to buy a new one, it would be a D700 replacement. It's an amazing camera, but for my needs it has too many megapixels, so I was a little disappointed with Nikon's announcement. It is already getting great reviews, however.

FastEddie and Lisa, I'm still using a Point & Shoot. I hope to join the grown up club with an SLR by the end of the year. Of course, I'll need plenty of spare time to figure out how to use it. :)

What point and shoot do you use? All your pictures always look fantastic!

Ha, thank you. It is the Canon PowerShot A530. The camera is good for inanimate objects in proper lighting. Catching Yorkies with it is tough.

Capt Noonie, Priscilla, has a little Panasonic that has a cool lens that seems to be better for action shots.

I agree that you take beautiful photos. You can reduce the amount of shutter lag by prefocusing on your subject. You can press the shutter half way and then release it when you see something you like.

Thank you for the compliment Lisa. :)

I try to use the pre-focusing and that seems to be when I am the least successful in capturing the shot. Maybe I'm not holding the camera steady enough, although I never had that problem with my big old Minolta. I should try a tripod.

:p I agree, prefocusing and Yorkies do not go together, lol. Also agree that Kristen takes great shots!
Which Minolta do you have? I love the 35mm's. Have Nikon and a very 70's Minolta :)

Now that is a nice camera! :D I have a Nikon now. I think it is a good camera for the price. I would love to upgrade in a year or so. But thinking this one is way out of my reach!! :p

Thank you MaryKay. :)

Sadly, I gave my last 35mm Minolta to my brother because I thought I wanted to go strictly digital. I couldn't find anyone to process the film properly anymore. All of the prints came out terrible whether I went to the drug store or a dedicated camera shop.

I really wish I had my original Minolta -- like yours, from the 70s. I left it in a rental car and the people at the shop didn't admit to finding it 30 minutes after I returned the car. :( Would love to have that camera again and my own darkroom. :)
