5-minute photography lessons? :-) Hey guys! I got a new camera and I'm in love with it. It's a point and click, but has a TON of customizable settings, so it's almost like a DSLR. It's a Panasonic Lumix. Anybody know and good (i.e. FREE) resources for learning quick tips about aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. Thanks so much guys!!! |
Congratulations, sounds like an awesome camera! The user manual is really the best place to start. Read it cover to cover. Best thing to do to start off is to learn about the auto settings. The one I like best for shooting Yorkies outdoors is the sports auto setting. It chooses the fastest shutter speed for the light conditions. For inside shots, choose the one that raises the flash when it's too dark. |
Hahaha, I've been through it back and forth. I know how to change all the settings, but I'm trying to experiment and it all comes out looking crazy. If there were a very basic introductory web page or something that'd be a big help. |
Awesome! You're way ahead of most people. Good for you. I'll poke around and see if I can find a good basic lesson. |

The Lumix is a great camera. I'd recommend the book Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson. It's a wonderful photography book that doesn't take long to read and the photos are great. It explains how shutter speed, aperture, and ISO work together. You will learn a great deal and definitely will take better pictures as a result. He has online classes. I've never taken any of them, but I get their emails. They constantly send tips on taking images and videos that might be helpful for you. Enjoy your camera!
