 What to do with Quiona  can't seem to watch any TV show where they are not touting the health benefits of Quiona.  So I bought a plain bag of it.  I decided to just cook it plain the first time to see what it tastes like in the raw.  Must say not what I was expecting. Perhaps I overcooked it, it is very soft.  Reminds me more of farina or crème of wheat.  I sprinkled a bit of salt on some on a tea spoon, yuck does not taste well with salt,  put a small pat of that healthy butter spread on small dish, better but it tastes breakfastie not dinner like.  also reminded me of grits.  So what do you all do with it.   |

 OMG it should be like an el dente pasta not farina :eek: :eek: :eek:  I cook just like pasta or rice and I season highly. Also sometimes dress with a fresh pesto or red sauce or even a lemon garlic spice combo or even curried :thumbup:  |

 Yeah I can't stand it when it's overcooked.  I've found that most of the directions on the bag I find are cooked too long.  I just cook it until the outer edge comes off and looks like a curly Q.  And Lisa, it's pronounced keen-wah. I used to say key-no-ah. :D  |

 LOL Like you are the ONLY Lisa in the world? :rolleyes:  We all know I'm not the only Priscilla. There are several dogs in exsistence with that name.  |  
 
 keenwa  for the dogs, I cook it in chicken broth (low salt or homemade) add veggies, and apple and plop some on top of their kibbles.... they love it and it is very high in protein.... to cook alone for the dogs, I add coconut oil or cod liver oil and add to kibble.... very good food!!         :aimeeyork   |

 thanks guys, the instructions on my bag said 25 min and I think I did go over that, I will try it again and be more careful and cut the time down to only 15 min and see what happens.  My Dh who hardly likes anything new and healthy asked me what I was going to do with that stuff I left in the pot, then he said it would probably be good mixed with wild rice:eek:  which sounds like a good idea only I was surprised he tried it when I was not looking:D   |  
 
 I think the overcooked quinoa would be good mixed in with wild rice, just like he said.  As for a new batch, I forgot to mention that I also think the water content they list is too much too. Too much water, and it doesn't get cooked off, so you have to cook it more so it's not watery, then ends up overcooked. I've been using less water, like 1 cup quinoa to 3/4 cup water or broth. I think most recipes I've seen is about 1:1 ratio.  |
