New Years first foot . . . Or also know as Hogmanay Traditional Celebrations The first person to enter your home after midnight will influence the year. He should be dark-haired, tall, and good-looking, and bearing certain small gifts; a lump of coal, a silver coin, a bit of bread, a sprig of evergreen, and salt. Some also add a little whiskey to it. And he should enter though the front door and exit through the back. Blonde and redhead first footers bring bad luck. Female first footers bring disaster down on the household. Don’t let a woman near your door before a man crosses the threshold. |
Interesting! |
Really? Lol. I have never heard this before. |
Do yourselves count...? LOL My guy is bald, and I'm a woman...and we won't be back until after midnight. (He's working and I'm going to be with him at midnight :) ) Don't like the woman bit though... ¬.¬ |
Gee I'm red headed and female ..... And I generally don't walk behind any male LOL |
Well I need all the luck I can get. So the man is walking through the door lol |
Seems I've heard to let a child walk into your home first because it brings you good luck for the coming year. I'll have to let my husband walk in the door first...but...we just had the front steps removed so there's no front door access. Does it count if he walks in the back door, turns around and walks back out?? And...I can get the gift bearing thing together except for the lump of coal...would a diamond be an acceptable replacement? :) |
We had my husband walk through the door at midnight. Hes dark and handsome, but not tall! LOL He brought a silver coin we put on the mat earlier in the evening! Lets hope, that combined with the Hoppin John New Years brunch, we have great luck this new year! :) Hope everyone else does too! OH and despite how filthy the floors were after having people over for NYE, we did not sweep yesterday.... didn't want to sweep any good luck out of the house. :) |
