| yorkietalkjilly | 11-28-2012 03:34 PM | I had to have a really bad test last Spring, starve overnight and no liquids or food that morning of the test - certainly no fresh, hot coffee. Plus, I had to be there at 5:30 a.m.!!! That means getting up at 4:30 a.m., tough enough but with no coffee - inhuman.
Starving, thirsty, dying for hot coffee, stumbling around my son got me to the hospital. I sat down in the waiting room of the department after checking in physically in sudden withdrawal for my caffeine and scalding hot coffee. Every single pore of my body was screaming for my morning coffee. I felt so sorry for myself. I was facing a yucky test with no bracing coffee, no nutrition, no sugar - nothing. I was so empty and fuzzy feeling and just hanging there on the chair - waiting at that grim, dark hour of the morning. Hadn't slept much that night and was so ready to about faint from hunger and thirst and caffeine.
This 20 year old kid comes in and sits right down beside me with a huge cup of Starbucks and what smelled like 3, still-warm doughnuts in a white box and starts in wolfing the doughnuts, gulping down that steaming hot coffee just like he'd not had a meal in 3 days! I almost fainted.
The smell of that coffee and those doughnuts is STILL in my head. But it was the smell of that hot coffee that nearly got that kid killed as I sat there starving for my coffee beside him. |
