Anyone have experience with freezer meals?? I came across a blog talking about freezer meals and it got my attention. Some days it would be awesome to just pull a bag from the freezer and just pop it into the oven or slow cooker. Anyone tries any of these books? How did you like it? http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_no...=freezer+meals |
:) Sorry, I haven't tried any of those books - but quite often I make double portions of whatever I'm cooking, then freeze it in those little aluminium tubs with lids. If I remember, I write on that lid what's inside... Then, if Andy's late home from work or something else crops up, dinner can be ready in next to no time :D Sally x |

Besides my dehydrator, my next best money spent was on my FoodSaver.....On weekends and especially Thanksgiving and Christmas, I freeze enough for my son and I in single portions....those meals freeze magnificently in my FoodSaver bags, and they are great to mix and match and make a meal all during the week when I work and do not cook. On weekends, I will cook at least 3, but usually 4 or 5 complete meals, and then freeze the meat, the veggies, in correct size portions, all separately, and then you can swap arund veggies and meats all during the week....The ONLY thing I have not had success in freezing, is RICE!!! I make a HUGE pot of rice dressing for Christmas, and I wish I could freeze portions of that to enjoy all year....the rice changes texture and it is terrible!!!.almost gritty!!!! |

But for instance, last night I roasted a whole batch of boneless chicken thighs stuffed with pork + apple, roast potatoes, honey roast parsnips, carrots, leeks + peas. I've got those foil trays with lids....I put 2x chicken thighs and plenty of all the rest in each one, sealed the lid on, and put in the freezer. There were 6 in all - ok you wouldn't want them constantly, but I've got a whole load of 'stand-by' types of these dinners in my freezer. They can then be taken out and put straight in the oven 'as is'...so easy :) I'm sorry if I've gone off the topic a little! :) Sally x |
