Thanksgiving Do any of you make a different main dish instead of turkey or ham? If you do, I would love to hear what you make! :) |
Oh no. . . Me it is all about the turkey. But as a first course we have pasta lol |

I don't know if we are having Thanksgiving Chinese lunch this year, so I might be cooking for me, bf, BIL, and MIL (hopefully she will eat something!) I'm gonna make baby back ribs (cheating style, steaming in the oven but come out so tender), mashed potatoes, and hopefully get a few lobsters and crabs. I love me some crustacean brains :D |

Rhonda, the only semi-unusual thing we have ever done is cooked a pheasant inside of the turkey. A hunter friend gave us a few pheasant that year. I'm usually not into gamey meat, but I thought it was delicious. |

I love duck. It's a chinese staple. Peking duck, oh yum, what a treat! I had some duck today, but Thai style, and am having the leftovers in some leftover pho broth. But as far as Babygirl Rosie's quesion, what's the purpose? You got me there. I've never done it before. I guess the purpose is, BECAUSE WE CAN. |

It's all boneless and therefore very easy to carve....it's a pheasant inside a chicken inside a goose. It sounds revolting and cruel and a bit dodgy but actually it's delicious :) I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving (you lucky people! :D) Sally x |

Well I gave you guys the recipe! It's super simple! |
My brother lives in Albuquerque, N.M. and they often now have tamales for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, along with the turkey, dressing and pumpkin pie. We had a girl at work who would often bring up a whole pan of tamales before each Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday as long as she worked there. Her family was from Mexico and she said they always made them along with traditional dishes for the Holidays all her life. |

I think one of the reasons I have never had duck is that whenever I have Chinese food, I always go for the shrimp. I agree with your reason for cooking birds inside of birds: because we can. :p Maybe an argument could be made for flavor enhancement of one bird or the other. Saves room in the oven too. |

Well the family is doing the traditional turkey thing but we plan to add a chicken breast and a baked potato with no seasoning for a certain Yorkie to enjoy! |

As for shrimp, we did have the honey walnut shrimp. That's one of my all time fave Chinese dishes. Breaded deep fried (huge) shrimp covered in a mayo sauce with candied walnuts and sesame seeds. That's as sweet as I'll go, but omg I love that. One of the more pricier Chinese dishes though. |

I've never had turducken but I would love to try! I don't think it is even offered here. My hubby ALWAYS has to have the honey walnut shrimp and he asks for extra walnuts.lol |
