*****R.I.P., Twinkies***** Sadly, Hostess Brands, Inc. has filed a motion with the Bankruptcy Court seeking permission to close business operations and sell its assets due to a union strike. All of my life I've had Hostess Cupcakes and Twinkies! Not often but when a comfort snack was in the offing, that wonderful chocolate-covered, creme-filled cupcake was there at the store, waiting to be bought and brought home for just the right time. I've loved Twinkies, too. Right now Hostess Chocolate Chip Mini Muffins are in my freezer. One of those little cakes is instant bliss. I hate when childhood icons go away and life is sadder for it. I'll miss you, Twinkies! :cupcake3: :( |
I am sure there are a lot of people wondering where their future comfort snacks are going to come from. I don't buy their products, but that's mostly because my DH has no self control when that kind of stuff is in the house. :D |
Whats even more sad is another 18,500 jobs lost in the US. :( |
....and not only are those of us who have ingested an occasional one of those delights over all these years, being glob smacked by this event, THIS MEANS MORE UNEMPLOYED PEOPLE!!! More people having to rely on unemployment benefits!! Wonder where THESE people will get health insurance from, since it wont be from an employer. As that cliff comes rushing towards me, I am looking for parachutes!!! But then, this may all be a moot point......remember, the World is scheduled to end the middle of December, according to the Myans (sp?)..... |
That's right - world officially ends 12-21-12 according to the Mayans. Just saw a dcumentary about it the other night. No Twinkies - I guess the world better end and be done with it all! |
Just saw on the news shelves are bare of Twinkies! News footage showed people coming out of the store with sacks of them!!! |
Our local news showed bunches of Ebay ads for Twinkies and one Buy It Now ad with a price of $5,000.00! Twinkies is trending on Twitter. Hostess said they have very little product left now due to the strike. |

I used to eat Ding Dongs and the Cupcakes as a kid. Twinkies I'm sure I've had one or two in my adult life. Can't say I'm gonna miss them. I always wince when I walk by the end cap of where they're displayed at the grocery store. All those preservatives. |

I just ate my last Hostess snowball. I will miss my Hostess products but even sadder is another business going under with 18,000 more unemployed. Scary world. My DH (RIP) believed the Mayan prediction would happen so maybe I will see him again soon. |
some Co will buy the name and recipes they will be back |
I will miss "Twinkies" LOL they were my favorite :) |
It's one more thing from the past that's just gone. And even if another company buys them and uses the recipe, the name, the packaging and I'll bet the Hostess products just won't be the same. I think they make Dolly Madison brands, too. Not sure what they make but have always heard of them! |
I wonder if a company from China will buy them? |
My agony over this event is actually one of dismay and shock and awe....how in the world have we gotten to the place in this country, when 5000 people in a Union, can absolutely be allowed to KILL a company, and put 18,000 people out of work, just because the company, which was already and had been, experiencing unresolved financial crisis, and could not possibly conceed to their unreasonable demands???? So, they tightened their strangle hold on the company, and killed it for everyone......which, oh by the way, WE will all be paying for in unemployment benefits and ....??? HEALTH CARE ???? why COULDNT SOMEONE, SOME WHERE, TOLD THIS GROUP, LIKE THE AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLERS WERE TOLD MANY YEARS AGO....NO!!!!! LEAVE!!! TAKE THAT CONTRACT, TEAR IT UP, AND THROW IT IN THE AIR!!! NOW GET OUT OF THE WAY, BECAUSE THERE ARE 10 PEOPLE STANDING BEHIND EACH ONE OF YOU THAT WOULD LOVE YOUR JOB!!! I am sorry, but I just can not understand this farce.....and I belong to a UNION!!! But I would NEVER support a "mandate" by my union, to do something like this!!!!! I would walk away first! |

Whew! This story was forever coming! Every time an icon threatens to disappear, one always thinks and hopes that someone will step up and buy the brand or somehow rescue the day by continuing production with their own company but I'd seen no stories about it until today. Twinkies will likely live on post-bankruptcy - CBS News |

It wasn't all the union's fault. I'm so sick of greedy executives doing this. |

Saw this headline on Google News about the bakers being more willing to lose their jobs than work for less pay. I get that they are making less than years ago but so are so many people who had rather work for less money than draw unemployment during these times. Twinkies bakers say they'd rather lose jobs than take pay cuts | Reuters |
