My family gave up trying to cook for Thanksgiving. We go out for Chinese. It's also usually lunch, so after eating Chinese for lunch, I"m hungry again by 3pm. And then NOTHING is open but fast food. SAD. |
We always have turkey but I change up sides. This yr we are having almond joy pie and goat cheese pie as our new items |

We have Thanksgiving about noon time. lol so later in the evening. Can have turkey sandwiches. lol I am half Italian so our meal always had a pasta dish. By the time you got to the turkey you were full lmao. So we finally dropped the pasta after the family got smaller. We used to have about 30-40 people for sit down dinner. But we also have a sausage stuffing |

1 pkg of hash towns (cubed or shredded either one works. I prefer shredded) 2 cups shredded cheese 1 can cream of chicken 1 8oz sour cream Onion (optional) 1/2 stick of butter Mix sour cream, butter, cream of chicken, onion, and cheese. Then add hash browns. Spread in a 9 x 13 dish. Cook 425 until browned and bubbly. You can add unsweetened corn flakes crushed up on the top too. If you do that increase butter to 1 stick and put the other half once you top with the corn flakes. So do same as above, top with crushed corn flakes, then spoon remaining butter on top. Cook the same. Make sense? :D |

last 2 years I used dried mushrooms and reconstituted them and added the soaking liquid to the stuffing. It added a whole new depth of flavor :thumbup: |

Since my precious momma has passed, my immediate family now consists of my son, myself and my broither...my brother "comes home" from North Texas on alternating Thanksgving/Christmas...this year it is Christmas when we have the HUGE meal with BOTH cornbread and rice dressing, candied sweet potatoes, fruit salad, steamed broccoli, scalloped potatoes, ham,...... and a smoked turkey breast from Honey Baked Hams which are FABULOUS!!!.....sweet potato pie and a new dessert I am going to try, Pumpkin Bread Bread Pudding!....on the off Thanksgiving, my son and I will have something "different" for Holiday meal....we did Chinese one year, Phillipino food one year, total seafood one year, which I thoroughly enjoyed but my gout punished me!!!....this year, I am going to do a small ham, potato salad, fruit salad, turnips with the greens, corn bread, and sweet potato pie, and lemon squares. Wishing everyone a wonderful, happy Thanksgiving, surrounded with love and family! |
Pumpkin pie, broccoli casserole, grean bean casserole, turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, hawaiian rolls, cranberry sauce, dressing. And sometimes cheesy potato casserole. Not this year tho. Too many things to cook while camping! LOL Most will be cooked before hand to allow us to just re heat. |
