Pancakes??
 
I was looking around for a *good* pancake recipe when I noticed a lot of links for Mark Bittman's pancakes. I also noticed there are three versions to choose from.....Has anyone tried any of his and is it in your *keeper* file??

Here's one for a basic pancake...

Then there's one with whipped egg whites folded in for lightness......

Her's the third one, it calls for the addition of ricotta cheese and yogurt for richness.....

Never mind......I just tried the one with the whipped egg whites ......not a keeper for me.....I found them bland and flat. Another meal filed in the trash.

Anyone have a recipe for pancakes that are flavorful along with some height in them???

I don't really care for pancakes ~ sorry :(

Maybe someone else has a recipe? On the rare occasions I make them for my kids, I use a mix :cool::cool:

Well Du Par's HAD awesome pancakes. Last time I went there, the pancakes were light and fluffy with a crispy exterior that lasted to the last bite, even with tons of butter on it. Not anymore. Now they are just regular old pancakes like at Ihop.

I'm not big on pancakes either but my DH and son like them. I usually make them from a box too, as in Bisquick, but I much prefer them from scratch so I know whats in them. Maybe a recipe with buttermilk for flavor????

My secretary made us all red velvet pancakes a couple weeks ago at work (bless her heart) they were out of this world...and I am not a pancake person, but this is a must try.:)

I don't think I've had buttermilk either. Not by itself anyway.

buttermilk is low fat and is TANGY!! It tastes like fermented milk on its own :thumbup::thumbup:

I'm not a pancake fan either, my son is though. I also use a mix...Aunt Jemima buttermilk mix...the one you just add water too! :rolleyes: yes i'm lazy...have no time for pancakes from scratch!

My mom drinks buttermilk if she has an upset stomach:eek: I love it in things, but not to drink.

You put buttermilk on top of crumbled up cornbread! It's pretty popular in the South although I don't have the nerve to try it. I love buttermilk in baked goods but I dunno about drinking it!

I found this recipe on allrecipes.com and now it is the only one I use when my granddaughter stays over. She loves them!

I dont like regular pancakes but I love german pancakes that you bake in oven.... Yummo!

Thank you for the link. I hope with over 5000 people rating them they will be good. I know there's ooodles of recipes on the internet for pancakes but I don't like making recipe after recipe to just be disappointed. Thanks again....

I like pancakes but I also use a box. I prefer the cheap Jiffy brand. They are fluffier than other mixes I've tried and have a good flavor. I am not a buttermilk fan but I'm sure you could use buttermilk instead of regular milk. 2% is better than skim if you are a skim milk drinker too. Also, I add 2 eggs, and a couple tablespoons of bacon fat to my mix. If you like flavored pancakes I like to cut up chunks of cream cheese, freeze them, them drop them into my pancakes.

I love pancakes, but will never use bisquick for them again-too darn heavy, they're like bricks! I usually do use a mix, though.

Honestly, we do more waffles around here-theyre a bit quicker and easier not to screw up. (Plus, they're Sir's favorite.) I usually throw whatever berries we have on hand in the mix,,,they get all plump and explode when they're cooked :)
