Tamale Recipe Wanted Would love to have a good recipe for making home made Tamales and sauce too:D and can I use something else besides the corn husks for wrapping. What is the best method for steaming them? Jack loves Tamales, want to make them for our Anniversary this Saturday, hopefully can make a larger amount to freeze some. Thanks, Patti and Jack |
I decided once, that I was going to do tamales...let me tell you what.........it took me 4 days to make those tamales.....they were delicious, but I never wanted to look at another tamale for easily 3 years! And let me tell you what....as hard as I worked on those dad gum tamales, there is not a person alive that could have afforded to buy those da** tamales off me.......they would have gone for no less than $200.00 a dozen!!!! To this day, when I buy tamales for $6.00/doz, I want to tell my tamale man he is CRAZY selling them that cheap!!!! |
I have never had tamales except out of a can but i love them |

Patti...if you're still serious about making the tamales...I've used this recipe and they are delicious! After reading if you're too intimidated ask around for a good tamale person in your area. Tamale Recipe |

FronteraKitchens.com | Red Chile Pork Tamales In my research this dish is VERY difficult to make. Not only is it time consuming but the teqnique has to be right and the ingredients have to be right. I have to agree with Yorkiemom1 and jen. Find a good tamale maker and purchase them...:) |
My mom makes tamales about once every 4 years or so...it is very time consuming and hard. I have watched her make them when I was younger and it is an all day process....but with that said they are so worth it. OMG they are so good!! IDK what her recipe is but I do know she wraps them in the corn shuck wrappers and ties them with some kind of string. |

My dh is a deer hunter and we have made deer tameles twice. We made them about 4 years apart. They are very time consuming....something that can't just be thrown together for a quick meal. I have to say they are so delicious, but I told him this last time that from now on, we will be buying them! It is also frustrating when he gives them away to friends! lol |

I forget what country they were from, but the tamales in the banana leaves and the masa is so smooth and soft, and there's a lot of meat in side. They are more of a square shape instead of a rectangle. |

It's a great recipe, just be sure to follow it exactly for the best success. I've made these 3 times now. My son, who can be very honest about what I can do to improve my cooking, told me something very complimentary the other day. He was encouraged by a friend, to buy tamales from this Hispanic lady that makes homemade authentic Mexican tamales. The friend insisted the tamales were the best ever, and he had tried many. Chris said, "Mom, her's were good, but yours are so much better. And believe me, if mine were not better, he wouldn't have said so. |

Lol, and she said that the same people who don't save the broth, also let the water evaporate when steaming them! |
