Dehydrator
 
I looked but could not find any recent recommendations.

Can anyone recommend a good dehydrator? There are so many different ones. :confused: I just want one I can use to make chicken jerky and sweet potato treats for the dogs. Nothing fancy. No bells or whistles needed. The simpler the better. :D

I am a low tech girl. Plus me and cooking tend to not work out so well. My last golden choice to eat a pencil and a toothbrush over my cooking as a puppy :eek:

This is the one I have had for YEARS!

Shop and save on Mr. Coffee food dehydrators.

or you can use your oven....

I think I will leave the oven to professionals with my history. I am a forgetful cooker. I put something on the stove or in the oven and then go to do something else and forget I am cooking.

Which Mr. Coffee?

Looks like they don't make them anymore.... I'd try Nesco or Aroma brands... they seem pretty reasonable, if you want a more modern one, lol.

I bought this one after reading many reviews...If you consider yourself more than the casual jerky hobbyist and your budget allows for a $50-$200 investment, take a look at the EXCALIBUR DEHYDRATOR line of products. These units are premium quality for the home user; equipped with a variable temperature control and an analog timer as well as large multiple trays. Best of all these units incorporate a horizontal air flow technology. That is the air flows from the back of all trays simultaneously to the front of all trays. This gives even cooking and no rotating as well as about a 6 hours cook time versus 8-10 for circular stackable units. I love this unit, and I make a lot of jerkey treats, not only for my dogs, but for family too, especially during deer season...elk and venison jerkey, have I died and gone to heaven????!!!!

I plan to use it to make treats for my yorkies and golden except Zoey who has CRF and this would be a no-no for her. It would primarily be chicken breast, sweet potatoes, and yams. Nothing fancy. I like to give them a special treat with last out that will hold the yorkies over til the morning.

I love my Excaliber! I do a large quantity of different kinds of jerkey treats for all my dogs and this gets the job done quickly and correctly! Highly recommend it!

No!! Is it good? Mine just love watermelon "fresh"!! Actually, havent done any fruit or veggies in it.... I got it because I wanted to do jerkey out of deer meat and elk meat from hunting every year....then it suddenly occured to me I could do chicken and beef jerkey treats for the dogs, since I was ALWAYS very unsettled about buying those....cant say why, but my gut instinct was to stay away from those....so happy I did!!!

I have 2 dehydrators, both by American Harvest, and they work great! They have a fan on the lid that really speeds up the drying time. Had one before that just had the element on the bottom and took twice the time. Amazon sells different styles.
Don't think watermelon would work because it would disappear when drying. ( I tried celery once and the pieces got very tiny! Not worth it.)
Your can also use ground meat and make little logs for treats, my Tessa loves these. Make them all the time!

How cool!! Are they kind of hard, so that it takes them awhle to chew them up? Maybe all the stores that have sold that ground meat with the "pink slime" filler, will be putting that on sale since the public out rage about it! Now would be the time to snatch up a whole lot and make these logs!!! This will be my next dehydrating adventure!!!

Where do you find instructions on how to dehydrate swt potatoes and chicken? I have never used a dehydrator but would love to fix some for my fur babies?

Mine came with a book on how to do all knds of stuff......I would imagine they all do...or GOOGLE it! Google knows everything!!!
