Saving Flavors For Other Dishes..... What do you do? I'm a bit obsessive actually  I boil chicken and duck carcasses to make stock Save bits of veggies in a bag in the freezer for "Soup Night" Freeze overripe tomatoes to go in sauces Save Parmesan rinds for pasta sauce or soups Freeze the leftover curry sauce from my take out for a starter for my homemade curry :D Save shrimp heads and shells to make a stock from reserve pickle juice after the jar is empty to A) DRINK!! or B) COOK WITH!! I have a million more   Does anyone else do this? |
I dont do any of that or anything like that but Ill be readinng the thread to see new things I can do. I learn so much in this forum from all of you about food and things to do and try. I love to cook and I like to find new better ways to do it and new things to try. Thank you everyone for everything you contribute to this forum. Honestly this is my favorite forum on the site |

Trouble is, with me and this thread - we never have anything left to save! It's almost worth going on a diet for!! :D Sally x |
I do not go to that extreme- but you have given me some good ideas. I do try and save some things but I could be much better. |

One of my favorite ingredients in chipotle in adobo. The chipotle peppers, however, are H O T  and I can only use 1 or 2 out of the 10 in the can. I now pulse the chipotle peppers with the adobo sauce and freeze in ice cube trays. When they are frozen I pop them in a ziplock to add to my tortilla soup or whatever. I also do the same ice cube tray trick with my homemade stocks. Attachment 358486 |
I used to do the ice cube tray thing, when my bubs were little, with homemade soup - then defrost as needed. Now, I freeze a sprig of mint or a tiny chunk of lemon etc. (in water!!) in ice cubes to have in drinks in the summer.....but that's neither here nor there!!! :D |

I used to do that too (both things :) ) but lately I stick to freezing cooking additives  |
Ok Lisa. What in the world do you use pickle juice in? I see you drink it. I love pickles and pickle juice. My fav snow cone is pickle flavored. :D And did you know it is the best thing in the world to get rid of the hiccups!!?? |
I always stand on my head and drink a glass of water backwards?!!? :D |
