Boy, that killing the pig by letting is slowly bleed to death and not just putting a bullet in its brain or using the sledgehammer they have for killing cow/steer seems really cruel, especially as the poor pig screams the whole time. You would think no one would have an appetite after listening to a pig scream its last. Yikes. Guess I'll have some Equate for dinner!!!

concretegurl 09-11-2012 02:43 PM

I'm a horrible personal hearing about screaming reminds me of cooking crabs!!!

I just text Derik to go pick up Crab for dinner!

One reason I don't do live lobster and crabs at home. Can't do it! I'm so squeamish it is pathetic!

Not the noise(although that is totally creepy I hear) just the idea of dropping a live thing into boiling water or grease or anything. I can't do it. Can't be in the room when it's done. Plus, I can't even buy them live - they just creep me out squirming all around - I think they are miserable needing their environment and I would feel guilty! Am hopeless. I can buy frozen ones but not anywhere even remotely the same taste so I can only eat them at restaurant or at someone else's home who is less squeamish than I. :(

Huge bowl baked potato soup topped with dollop of whipped cream, bacon, shredded cheddar cheese and chives. Big chunks of potato in the soup were so good. Nice slice of garlic toast on the side. Am so full it hurts.

My mom once told me that they tried to cook live lobster. SHE FREAKED OUT!!! I think she cried. And she said the way they were clawing the side of the pot to get out and the hissing and "screaming" sounds...she just couldn't handle it. She said never again would they do that. :(

Portobello mushroom burger for lunch!

There is red onion, roma tomatoes, romaine lettuce, roasted red peppers, portobellos cooked with olive oil , spices, and fleur de sel. Coarse ground mustard mixed with light mayo spead on a sesame seed bun. :D ;)

Boy, does that sound familiar. I had that experience at a friend's and freaked. Kept shuddering the rest of the night. I wasn't much of a date that night! Poor Lobbies - I hope they didn't feel too much of their horrid death! Hope their brains or whatever zonked out first & all the rest was just kinetic spasms or something! Still shudder to think of it.

That picture just about caused me to start knawing on my keyboard! Don't even have the words for how delicious that looks to me right now. Dinner is long gone and breakfast hours away.

I boil live crabs and lobsters all the time and I have never heard the "scream". I don't really have a problem with boiling them live, bc I so appreciate their meat, and not only that, but I save their shells for stock later as well. Additionally, I am one of the few who eat the brains (the tamale), the roe (if I'm so lucky to get some), the water they are boiled in gets strained into the stock, etc, so I waste nothing. I think it's terrible for people to kill a lobster and just eat his tail and claw meat. What a waste.

Once my mom got a fish from 99 Ranch. She picked it out of the tank and the fish monger scooped it out and whacked it on the head, scaled and cleaned it and off to home we went. When she went to season and marinade it, she felt its muscle twitch and she freaked out and flung it over the kitchen counter and under the living room table. She was so freaked that she made my grampa go and get it from under the table. It wasn't still alive, but the nerves weren't quite "dead" yet. Fresh!

Eeek, girl! You brave! Boy, I love the finished product! But I'll have to let others do the deed as I would just have no appetite left if I had to drop them in the boiling water & hear them struggle to escape or the death throes! Thankfully, there are plenty of fine restaurants within driving distance so I can still indulge! Same with chicken, etc. If I had to wring a chicken's neck or hack off the head, or take off it's feathes, chop it up, see all that blood, I'd have no appetite left - guess it would be a great way to lose weight. Ha! I'm so lucky to be a city girl! ;)

capt_noonie 09-16-2012 08:19 PM

You are right about the chickens. I've never had to "do" my own chicken before. However, I'm not that big a fan of chicken, except for the wings and the skin! LOL

yorkietalkjilly 09-16-2012 08:20 PM

Had sliced, spiced tomatoes, baked beans and whole wheat bread with butter for late dinner and a rice vanilla pudding for dessert.

That sounds hilarious! Did you see one of those shows on foodnetwork where in Japan they cut up the fish (I think it was a Bizzare Foods episode) for sashimi but put the rest of the fish that is still moving on the plate. I thought that was cool. lol

I don't like skin or fat off of any meat/chicken/fish either. But have you ever tried chicken skin chicharones? OMG...they are sooo good! There is a place here that makes them called Kiawe BBQ Grill. :D

yorkietalkjilly 09-21-2012 01:43 PM

McDonalds Premium Grilled Chicken for 350 calories it says on the menus. There was enough Mayonaise on it to equal 200 or more calories by itself!!! Think fast food's listed calorie count the Fed is mandating is always going to be reliable?

Harrysmum 09-23-2012 08:30 AM

Oh, Sally, I just had a Slim Fast Vanilla Shake and read that you just ate like a queen!!! That sounds so good I can't even say what it has done to my intention to "be good" today. Now I want juicy prime rib & Yorkshire pudding for dinner - with yeast popovers and a nice wedge of raspberry cheese cake!!! Burp!!!!!!!!

yorkietalkjilly 09-24-2012 01:53 PM

Ham sand & slice of cantalope, Iced Tea.
