Magnuson Park in Seattle - Small/Shy Dog Park! Well, there has been a regular dog park in Magnuson Park for quite some time now, but we just went over yesterday, and there's a special section for smaller and shy dogs! :D Yoda is in no way shy of course, but it's great to see an area where little dogs can roam around and be carefree, without being possibly trampled by clumsy big dogs or intimidated by them. We saw a few Silkies yesterday, and lots and lots of pugs, but no Yorkies unfortunately! The only thing we had to be on the lookout for was a young girl, who was playing very rough, and tried to swat at Yoda (I guess she was playing tag or something). Very uncool! But Yoda knew better and I just picked him up when that happened. Yoda had a ball roaming around with a pack of friends. It's a pretty neat area, so if you are ever around Sand Point, check it out! :) |
Hi there Freddie, if you ever come to Portland let me know and bring your babies:) |
Sounds like a fun day at the dark park, well except for the little girl playing tag. I am really surprised you didn't see more Yorkie's, Fasteddie. Especially since they are so popular. (And of course cuter than any Pugs, LOL) :p |
Yes, but people with Yorkies NEVER bring their Yorkies out in public it seems. We get a LOT of attention wherever we go. But part of it yesterday was that it was still a bit chilly, maybe about 55 degrees or something. But Yoda fears nothing of course! In the spring and summertime, we do see a a few more Yorkies out. :) |
fasteddie, i took toby to the small/shy dog park today...... unfortunatly people need to reclassify wether their dogs are small and shy, there were several dog there that were LARGE AGRESSIVE DOGS!!!!!!! I'm not necessarily a nervous person, but these dogs made me REALLY NERVOUS; toby was under out feet because this dog wouldnt leave him alone and was HURTING toby by trying to puprposfully trample him, this made toby VERY fearful and scared....... after that dog left we had a GREAT time, toby took a while to loosen up after that scary experience but he had dun in the long run It just makes me mad how people use these parks and they give no thought to what park they should take their dog too, there was a larger dog park right next to ours this woman could have taken her dog there, but NO... I talked to several people there and it seems this is a very bog problem and there have been SEVERAL attacks on smaller dog because owners of large dogs think it is cute or funny to see there dogs next to tiny ones, even though they are aggresive..... I even told her "youre harley is an agressive player, he could hurt the other dogs", after that she wasnt too interested in complimenting me on my toby, but she did leave ;) ...........moral of the story, WATCH YOUR BABIES AND DONT BE AFRAID TO TELL IT LIKE IT IS TO THE PERSON WHOS DOG IS A PROBLEM, AND THEN LEAVE IF IT ISNT RESOLVED..... |

I'm on the east-side right now and the local dog-park used to be Chewy's favorite part of any day. We stopped taking him after we saw a larger dog kill and attempt to eat a dog just about the same size as chewy. We decided that we would rather not place his life in the hands of other dog owners thereafter. Chewy is so outgoing that he runs up to and attempts to tackle ANY dog and invite sport. The problem is that he often gets in deeper than he can handle. Oddly, my apartment complex is quickly becoming a terrier dog park. If my neighbors see me walking chewy, out comes a miniature boxer-something mix, a pug, and a chijuajua. We do this so that they can exert their eneriges on each other and give us a little peace that night! Works mutually well for all of us. I'm going to miss leaving that behind, so learning about this really puts me in high spirits, thanks! |
Cool, Hamoth! Maybe we'll see you and Chewy at Magnuson sometime, well maybe when the weather is nicer than it has been lately, eh? :) |
That sounds like a great dog park. We are on the Eastside and have been to Marrymoor once, but will not go back since there are so many big dogs. I've heard they are going to put in a small dog area, but I don't think they have done it yet. Fasteddie - let me know the next time you are going to the park and maybe we can meet you there! |
Sounds good Bentley'sMom! We're usually more free on Saturdays, and hopefully when the weather is nice and the ground isn't wet. Maybe sometime in May. Yoda was excited when I told him he had YT friends wanting to meet him! :) |
That sounds great. We are normally free on Saturdays. |
I'm Jealous!!! We are as far west as you can go. no dog park! LOL. Dont think I would like one out here. There is no animal control so most run loose or with teens leading or by thier side, until there is a problem. Cant walk up the street cause there are too many (I hate to classify the dog, its the owners that are the problem) Pitts, Rotts, etc. So we just stay in the yard and go to the river on private property for walks. The dogs enjoy it but they LOVE when we go out camping at the hood canal or at lake cushman, the potholes, etc with our boat. They love the boat rides (As long as it is smooth) LOL. I think they just love getting out and smelling all the smells. It is a blast. Wish I could meet you all It would be great! I was raised in the snoqualmie valley area. |
Well, if you're ever in Seattle, let us know! Sounds like camping is a lot of fun, I'm sure they love the wind in their face with the boat ride as well, Yoda is telling me now that he's jealous of the boat rides! :p |
Parvo at Magnussen I've taken Bella to Magnussen Park before and when I got back I talked to another friend who has a yorkie and she said that a lot of dogs have contracted parvo from being at that park. Bella has all of her vaccines, but I don't want to risk getting her infected. Now I take her to Matthew's Beach which is really close to Magnussen...same street, but further north. They don't have a small dog area, but if you go at non-peak times, you can let them run around. Me and a few of my friends with yorkies meet up there all the time and it's great. |
Let us all know when you guys are going to Matthews Beach Bella&Stephanie! Yoda would love to meet some new Yorkie friends! As playful and active as Yoda is, he's VERY VERY clean. :) |
