Chihuahuas 1 Attachment(s) At first I wondered to myself what have I done by bringing a chihuahua into a yorkie minded family but it has been such a fun challenge so far.....Bella came to me 2 mos ago w a little snapping issue which has so far disappeared in the last month.....I had Bella spayed as soon as I got her since Truffles was 6 mos old already....I took her out of town to a holistic vet who is very careful w the anaesthetic and I was able to bring her home that day....not like some who overdrug and overcharge for overnite....on my way there I stopped for coffee at a Crispy Creme drive in window.....I'm used to having a little yorkie on my lap and people going "oh how cute" and the yorkie responding w ears up and tails going....well, the young man said "oh what a cute dog" and I smiled then Bella goes "ARHHRAHRHHRAHRHRHARHRHRHRH!!!@@@!!!.......I was like...whoa............then an older man put his hand through the window for Bella to sniff and she was ok.....he said his wife has a chihuahau and I asked for advice and he said lots of patience and lots of love...I immediately took her everywhere I went to socialize her w everyone I could think of.....my pet sitter has wonderful children who have an amazing understanding of animals .....they had a b'day party so I brought Truffles and Bella to stay w them a few days and the report was that they did great....the girls kept an eye on them both to make sure they were handled properly....she came to us thinking she would be the alpha but in time she lost that position....I took her to a friend's Hispanic Expo she was having and Bella made her debut there....I skipped taking Truffles to agility class one day and took Bella instead....she did every station no problem...the instructor said when she is older she will do great because she has no fear....I am trying not to baby her and so far she has no shaking unless she's cold....I hand her to other people when I want to get her introduced to others because sometimes I am leary that she might snap and I know she can sense that from me so I try not to be overprotective.....didnt mean to write a book here but this is about where I am at in training so any tips or suggestions are greatly appreciated.... |
I don't have any training tips but Bella is absolutely ADORABLE!!!!!!!! |
she is adorable !! keep on doing what your doing Dont baby her at all thats one of the things i made sure i didnt do when i got mine & everyone comments how sweet he is |
She is really, really cute!! :) |
Sounds like your doing everything right, and oh what a little doll. |
1 Attachment(s) It seems to me like you are in the right direction...I have a chihuahua and I just don't condone her growling, snapping, etc. You just have to tell them "no" when they start acting up and continue to socialize them and I think they get used to being around new people. Yours is adorable! Here is a pic of mine. |
..........thanks for the encouragement......she is getting so much better....when I take her anywhere I hand her to people right away so she stays sociable.....I just took her to a woman's expo in her little carrier/purse and everyone commented how calm she seemed and wasn't shaking....she is so smart....whenever I get ready to go to work she hides from me so I don't put her in her crate....right now two of mine are just hanging out w me and she is busy in the kitchen playing w one of the cats....they are so funny to watch!..........your chihuahua is gorgeous ....she has the face like a baby bambi...........and cocoa reminds me of my biewer....he looks like he's ready to jump out of your arms.......like "I just wanna play"!!! |
