Cat owners: What do you feed? I've had Gloria, my kitten, for about 6 weeks now. She was used to eating Purina Kitten Chow so that is what I bought for her and still feed her. What do you feed? I'm not sure if Purina is a good brand of kitten/cat food since I know the dog foods aren't all that good. I'm sure a really good premium brand wouldn't be all that much more expensive. I pay $7.00 for a 5lb bag at Wal-mart (semi off topic, but I think they are getting rid of the 5lb bag and only selling 3lb bags which would make it even more of a hassle). It'd actually be easier for me to get some of the premium brands at one of the local pet boutiques too. |
I buy Felidae. It is made by Canidae which I buy for Wes and Maddie. http://www.canidae.com/cats/cat_and_kitten/dry.html |
My cats are picky eaters. My vet said never to feed a food from the grocery store. I feed my 4 Pro Plan or Royal Canin. |

I also like how both a kitten and a cat can eat the same food as I'd eventually like to get another kitten. Thanks! |

I have two cats. My older one has allergies. I feed her Nature's Variety Instinct Rabbit formula (2/3can a day) along with 1 raw rabbit medallion a day (Nature's Variety Raw - diet). My younger one was eating Merricks canned food, but I recently switched her to California Natural Salmon & Sweet Potato (2/3 can per day) along with 1 raw rabbit or venison meallion a day (Nature's Variety Raw diet). Every other day or so I'll give her about a tablespoon of Solid Gold Green Tripe. Cat's need a premium food just like our dogs do. Canned is so much better than dry kibble for them because cats have a low-thirst drive. If they are eating kibble, they need to drink a lot more water and cat's tend to drink the minimum they have to. Less water can cause dehydration and lead to UTIs and other problems. By feeding canned, there is a lot of moisture already in their food so they don't need to drink as much water (although my cats will normally take a small drink once a day). |

We feed our 2 Purina cat chow. we have since they were little (they're 10 & 8 now). |
I have 4 cats and they have been on raw diet since they were kittens...age range is 1 to 6 yrs........chicken necks, etc.....they LOVE it and all have beautiful teeth, coats and healthy skin........they have lots of energy and play w each other and my yorkies.....yrs ago I had a cat who was on Science Diet and vet kept changing food but nothing helped her diabetes....last 5 yrs were spent taking insulin shots........which led to bad arthritis in her legs....I thank God my new babies will not have to go through that! |

I have a phobia of raw meat! |
I have 3 cats and they eat the same brand as my yorkies, and they eat Eagle Pack, it's holistic chicken and rice. |
......as far as "messy" that may have been one of the reasons modern man changed the feline's diet ......it's more convenient to open a can or pore from a bag...but it's kinda like if we ate MickeyD's every day...as kids we could probably do it but once you are older the effects show up.....I use indoor/outdoor carpet in the kitchen and both kitties and doggies clean up nicely so I have found ways to eliminate the messy....if you believe in something you find a way........as far as the "phobia" you should not feed your babies something you do not totally believe in....do your research on whatever you feed them.....maybe go to a friend's who has a cat over 5 and feel through their coat to make sure they have no sores....if you like what you see research and go for it.......if the cat is fat and lazy don't do what they do...... |
