Does anyone have a Chihuahua? I need advice. My daughter got a free Chihuahua on Thursday. I don't know anything about this breed. Do they interact well with Yorkies (big or small)? Do I keep her in a x-pen until my Yorkies get used to her? Right now she's scared; she's only happy when someone is holding her. She is about 6 months old and eats like a little piggy. What is the best food for her? How much food do I give her? She does have a inflamed tear duct since birth. Has anyone ever heard of this? Do I use a collar on her? Or should I get a harness to bring her out in for walks? What about the cold? Do you think I need to get her a pair of pj's for night time? Thanks for your help, Sondra |
I've 'HEARD' that with yorkies or Chiuaua's its best to move them into a new house/animals while their young... Otherwise Yorkies and Chi's are sure to both want to be the alpha dog |
I have 2, and they all live happily together with my yorkies :) Chi's are AWESOME!!! Mine are sooooooooooo silly!!! They wear a collar for identification, but for walks a harness would be what you'd want to use. Mine eat Canidea. Both my yorkies and my chis. They all get the same treats too. Chi's tend to shake all the time, but not nessasaly from being cold. Mine will even shake if is 90 - so I'd just judge it by if its really chilly or not. Your going to love having one. Mine are the BEST!!!!!!! |
3 Attachment(s) I just had to post their pic :) I love my baby girls! Can we see a pic of yours? |

My sister has a chihuahua, who i take care of most of the time... anyway Lily is a piggy as well. She will be a year in sept. & about 3 lbs. I feed both Innova small bites and Lily gets half of 1/4 cup twice a day plus some apple sauce and treats. I would walk her on a harness, one that stays away from the neck. Get her some hoodies and pjs they come in handy and a sleep sac. I've never heard about inflamed tear duct... As for yorkies and chihuahua getting along... Mine are best friends, but occasionally fight. Nothing serious maybe over a toy or blanket. Good luck with your new chi! |

I have both. They get along great. I have a male and female yorkie and a male and female chi. The bigger female yorkie acts like the "grandma" keeping everyone straight and where they are suppose to be. They all play great together and will even pile up on the large dog bed we have in the living room and go to sleep. If you take her out i would use a harness. My chi's took a little more time to warm up then the yorkies did, so you may need to give her a little extra love and attention. Hold her in your lap and let your yorkie sit beside you and they will probably start sniffing each other and in a couple days they will be playing and getting along. |

I don't have one, but a lot of people on here do and they will be able to help you. Best wishes. |

2 Attachment(s) I have a chihuahua and 2 yorkies and they get along fine. My chi, Maddie is older so a lot of the times she will just ignore the rambunctious yorkies. Never any fights though. The chihuahua is the boss at our house. She is a sweetheart. |

I don't have a Chi, but I have a very hyperactive yorkie that loves playing with the neighbor's Chi because Ruffles is the only one that can keep up with him.....they play for hours in the late afternoon and early evening. Rough and tumble play exhausts them enough so, they both sleep all night. |

I have a 15 year 9 month old blond short hair. She's always been the sweetest little thing all her life and has never had issues with other dogs and I've fostered plenty. She's on a down hill slide right now but still eats like the piglet she is. :D I've never put pj's on her, but I will put her sweatshirts on her when it's cold. I've only used harnesses on her for walks and she's only eaten home cooked meals. She's never been sick, but due to an eye injury to one and glaucoma to the other, she now has no eyes, but don't tell her that. :D I suggest not holding her so much and not to carry her around. My Delsi was not carried. She walked just like a large dog would. I let kids of all ages hold her so she would get used to them and she loves everyone including cats. She's just a total sweetheart. |
