My Yorkie and roomates Boxer
 
One of my friends recently moved into my house. He has a male boxer a little over a year old.
I have a 5 month old yorkie named Zeus.
I always have to supervise when my yorkie and him try to play. Because the boxer plays too rough and is too big and strong. Sometime causing Zeus to yelp and cry. Then I end up just putting Zeus back in his crate so he doesn't get hurt.
Anyone have any suggestions or experiences.

I have the same issue with my brother's boxer, Vito. He gets all jumpy and excited and scares Max. I let them around each other for short periods then I have to separate them when Vito gets too excited. I'm gradually trying to increase the amount of time that they are around each other so that they can learn to co-exist peacefully. I need some other suggestions, too.

Time should take care of the problem. The Boxer is still a pup. With patience and training he can learn to be gentle. Chattie came home when Boo was 7. Chattie weighed a whopping 1.5 lbs. when she arrived and we never ever had problems. Boo the boxer has made the bestest baby sitter for the pups we have had. Here are a couple of pics.

when we brought home our first "baby" Tootie, my lab, Laci had to learn to "BE EASY".. it didnt take her long to catch on... sometimes I have to separate them because the little ones get too wild, but Laci is always EASY with the babies and if she forgets all we have to do is remind her by saying STRONGLY, "BE EASY" and she does perfect

We have a boxer and Yorkie and they are awesome together. I was just commenting tonight on how Coco (Boxer) and Georgie (Yorkie) play and she doesn't hurt him. I would just continue to supervise and once the Boxer gets older it will change. Boxers are great dogs it's actually one of the breeds that I see the most on here with Yorkies and everyone says the same thing. Heck, I have to watch Georgie more than Coco he is the beast always nipping at her floppy ears. I don't think the Boxer intends to hurt your Yorkie it's just a puppy and very playful. Give them time and they will be best buds. Just remind the Boxer to be gentle and gradually increase playtime. Good luck!

I agree with Donna, we taught Daisy the "be easy" command and it worked great. She learned in no time that she had to be gentle with them. It just takes time and they really need time to mature, being a puppy with all the hyperness and energy makes it difficult. It will be much easier once he calms down more but keep at it and teaching him to "be easy" or "be nice".

Boxers are usually very good dogs. Yes they get excited easily, and tend to be bouncy, but you can train them to get along.

hahahaha that pic is sooo cute...Chloe (yorkie) is only 4lbs and my boyfriend wants a boxer, I've heard they're wonderful dogs! I'm sure it's only a matter of time before they calm down together...the boxer is only a puppy and well we all know what puppies are like! Tehehehe! :D

This is such a great post because i have a 1yr & 5month old Yorkie and my bf wants to get a boxer and i was wondering how they would react together. Not sure if he's def getting one but he's been saying it for a couple of years and now mentions it more than ever.

Not to get off subject but does anyone know of a Boxer Breeder in NY area?
