maltese breeders/owners
 
if any of you breed malteses, i was talking to a breeder, and she just had a litter of maltese puppies, and we're looking for a little girl (maltese or yorkie). i wante a smaller one, but by that i meant 4-5lb. this onewas 2oz at birth. she had a rough start, but she's fine now. how big do you think she'll get. i'd be scared to have one that little with my teapot yorkie, i wouldn't want her to hurt the little.

2 oz is really small. But maybe since she had a rough start, she will get better now and grow. Good luck to you! Maltese are a great breed!!

I have an 11lb yorkie and a just under 4lb maltese, and they get along great. My yorkie isn't rough with her at all. I guess it depends on your yorkie's activity level. How big is your yorkie? Congratulations on getting another furbaby though :)

The 2 ozer may or may not end up small. About 5 years ago now my Danielle had a litter of only two, a girl and a boy. The girl was barely 2 oz at birth. I gave her a few drops of glucose and put her on to nurse, every 90 minutes around the clock for just over a week. She kept going and then was able to do it on her own. She grew up to be a healthy 5 1/2 lbs and is doing great, now 5 years old.

I have a yorkie (Hannah) that is 4 lbs and she is 9 months old and I have a maltese (Bentley) that is already over 6 lbs and he is 5 months old. I was concerned about the size he would get to be when I bought him because I didn't want Hannah to get hurt, but the breeder told me that he should be around 5 lbs (I know that you can never really know). I know that he is going to grow a lot more too, but he and Hannah are great together. If anything I need to worry about her hurting him. He is soooo sweet and she is so rough with him. Good luck finding a new baby.

She's 10lbs i believe. it's not that her activity level is high though, she just gets really jealous, and if the puppy is hyper and bouncing around and mika decided she doesnt like it, i'm scared that she would attack the smaller one. then again, i was scared when we got a kitten, but that turned out fine. if she wasn't so tiny i wouldn't be worried about getting her, it's the only thing stopping me

it's not that i don't feel that shes not the right one, i'm just scared that if we do get her, she might get hurt if she's that little. i'm hoping that what the others said about her growing bigger than what the charts say bc she had a rough start is true, she's really adorable.

I know it's a tough decision!! :) Just go with your heart. I know what you mean about worrying about a little one...I didn't realize how small Emma was until I picked her up, and I was so worried about her size.
But as soon as she opened up, she actually became the bully in my house. LOL :) She pushes my 11lb yorkie around. Haha!
We have doggie stairs at the couch and at the bed so that she doesn't jump off of anything. She learned really quickly how to use them, and she will not jump off the couch or the bed...only the stairs :)
If you want to ensure a certain size though, I would wait until they are a little bit older to actually choose. Will she let you pick when they're closer to six or eight weeks so you can see their personalities and size?

yes, i'm going to keep in touch with her. she's been sending me pictures and i'll see how it goes. i'll let you all know

Yeah!! I'm so excited for you. Maltese are wonderful dogs too, and they get along so well with yorkies :) Show us pics later on!!

my friend has a little maltese( 3lbs) his name is coco, even though he is as white as snow:) He is tiny but fiesty, he playes with my joey who is about 6pds, and they have no problems, congrats to you what ever you decide:) would love to see a pic:)

When I got Cali she was 1 lb and the runt of the litter and expected to be 3lbs or so. She ended up at 5 1/2 lbs and I have a 12 lb Pom and she was fine. Pixie is 3 lbs and also does fine with my Pom.
