Charlie tested positive for heartworms The vet seems to think that we can control them.....so I hope we can. We go back injections in two weeks.:( I dont know a whole lot about them but I know they can be deadly. Ive started reading some but it saddens me to think of the dark side. |
Wow! Was he on heartworm pills? Does he go outside very much? How old is he? So sorry this happened to little Charlie. Hoping he will get through treatment just fine. |

He doesnt act sick. Now he has been grumpier than usual but I just blamed it on the weather. Its been raining a lot here and that messes up his routine -he cant go out, roam around and play with all the rain that we have had. Now I wish I had taken him earlier when I thought something was wrong but just thought it was that. I took all 3 to vet to get a bortella shot. They are all going to daycare tomorrow. |
Poor thing. :( Don't take this the wrong way.. but why wasn't he on a preventative other than the type of pill that made him sick? It's a horrible thing for a dog to have to go through. My mom has a dog who has heartworms (she rescued him, and he had them when she got him) and he is on so many medications. Sometimes he even randomly passes out. |
OH NO !!!!! OMG those are horrible evil parasites and I hope the medication works for him !! I heard they're really hard on the dog ...GOOD LUCK !!! Just for the future - even if they make them sick the end result is SO worth it !!! |
Twalla, I am so sorry to hear about Charlie testing positive. I will say some prayers in his behalf and I'm sending get well hugs :ghug: |
Oh no I'm so sorry...I hope the meds work for him. |

It was a vet recommendation someone other than my normal.... I learned my lesson unfortunately at his price. |
Oh, OK. Sorry to hear that. :( Hopefully you've ditched that vet and your new one will be able to help Charlie out! :) |
Heartworm treatment is VERY hard on the dog and your wallet. Good luck to you...:lovewings |
I will say a prayer for Charlie...I'm sorry |
How terrible to hear your baby has heartworms. I do hope the cure doesn't do him further harm. It's really rough on them. Let us know how he does. |
I have fostered dogs from the Humane Society who were undergoing treatment for heartworms. Yes, it's not good and the injections can be painful for the dog and you have to limit their activity, but with good care, they can be fine! The ones I fostered did great! I hope yours makes complete recovery. |

Poor Charlie! :( My poodle got sick on his heartworm meds too so the vet switched him to a different kind. I'm so sorry Charlie has to deal with this and you too! I'll send up a prayer for him that it won't be too tough.:hands: Tink sends him kisses 'cause she says they heal lots of things.:) |
