What am I supposed to do now!? I'm freaking out right now. i found out this morning that they added Alpo wet to the recalled food list. I know it's not the best stuff to feed my lab, but it's all Rusty will eat!! We've had him for 7 or 8 years now, and it's all we can get him to eat without turning his nose up to it. :( I don't know what I'm supposed to do now!! I think he'd rather starve than eat anything besides Alpo. and I can't give it to him and risk him getting sick. i don't know what I'd do with myself if something happened to him. :( |
I know what you mean, Its so scarey, I went to wallmart and stoked up on whole chickens, their cheaper that way, and I Have been cooking that up for my dogs. and it takes a lot to feed that to my bigger dogs. |
oh man I don't know, but I'd get him some good stuff. I guarantee you when he's hungry enough he'll eat it. |

:animal36 Could you stir in a small amount of warm water with pinch of garlic for flavor? |
It was a voluntary recall and they did post the label numbers that were canned around that time and the number code of the plant from which they were canned. The good news is that it is voluntary. I feed that wet food to my mastiff so I know how scary that is. |
Also I just looked up the can codes for you it is 7037-7053 followed by the plant code 1159 |
thank you Punkin/Piper. :) I was just looking around on here and I noticed some recipies for home-cooked meals. Do you think those meals would be enough to fill up an 80 lb dog? |
My husband and I were just talking about cooking chicken and rice for the dogs for a while. Our mastiff is 110lbs so he will need to eat a good size portion twice a day. If you cook him food just make sure you give him enough. |
You add things besides chicken and rice to that mix, right? If not, that diet is going to be pretty deficient in many things. Here's a home cooking recipe that some of us use for dobies, they're about 80lbs or so. It's a decent amount of work, but it's balanced and proven to do well with sensitive dobe tummies! Kinetic Doberman Diet Just make a big batch and freeze once a month. Easy! The proof is in the pudding, just look at the condition on her dogs! Doing this for a yorkie would probably be pretty cost efficient too. |
