fathers and daughters ok since i am new i would like the opinion of others i have told my mother that it is not right to mate her male dachshound with his daughter. am i right about this. she tells me it does not matter in the animal world. i breed my males daughter with other males i find it wrong Please help i will let her read the replys i get so she sees the different posts... |
I don't know what the answer is..........but common sense tell you the genes are very close and it's a no-no. I wouldn't do it if I was her. |
This is a definite no-no, especially in a pure-bred dog. Genes in a baby (dog/human/whatever) come 50% from the father, 50% from the mother. When you mate a father to one of his daughters, their children will be 75% from the original father. The major problem with this is that genetic traits are much more likely to occur - this is why purebred dogs are much more likely to have genetic disorders (like luxating patella), since there is a common ancestor that is relatively recent. If you would like a more in-depth discussion, look up "recessive alleles" on wikipedia, but in short, it's a very bad idea. |
thank you i will show her this she is supposed to go into heat this month some time. well if anyone knows a long hair dachshound let me know i will refer her to them... maybe i can get her to change her mind.... |
No matter the breeds . There will never be a good reason to breed father to daughter . |
Yep, that is definitely wrong. Too many genetic things can go wrong and you can end up with dogs with all kinds of problems. |
It's funny cause I thought by the title that this was going to be a heartfelt thread on dads and their girls.. ;) lol |
that is considered in breeding and any faults the line might carry will be compounded in the off spring. |

I know someone who has done that with her Bichon's and even tho some of the babies appear fine on the outside, some of them have weird tails so I would imagine everything is not right on the inside. There was a cat family that lived under my stepmom's trailer that she fed and they inbread - strange tails and many illnesses. I would not think it would be healthy. But, then, I am no expert. I just know I wouldn't do it. |

I was thinking about this yesterday and it's true, it does happen in the wild. But their purpose is to keep the species alive. They don't have conciences. They just do it. So, then, that may explain all the mutant animals. It still seems to me like that's just asking for genetic problems. |
