Bringing home a brother!! After alot of thought, I have decided to buy a little male silky that is show quality. We spend most of yesterday visiting yesterday and getting to know the breeder and just fell in love with the little boy. They told us all about showing and have even offered to be my mentor when he turns six months and is ready to show. We also got to meet all his other beautiful silkys and wow they are just goregous in person. I am so excited about this opportunity to finally break ino the show world. So now I need advice on bringing a new boy into our home....what should we expect with our two girls?? Any general advice.... I am hoping to bring him home sometime later this week...I don't think I can wait much longer!! |
Should be lot of fun. How old are your girls. Are they spayed? Congratulations on your new baby. |
CONGRATULATIONS! New puppies are so much fun. My experience is that the current dogs are a little standoffish to new arrivals. My dachshund and Jack Russell even seemed to pout a little with each addition. But my Yorkie pups are persistent -- Ben has already won his spot in the other two's hearts and little Sadie has made it to be Ben's buddy but still has not been accepted by the two non-Yorkies. I am sure she will be though -- it has only been a couple of days. Who can resist them? Would love to see some pictures of your silky -- I have never seen one in person but seems they are very close to a Yorkie. I am interested in going to a few shows to see if it is something I would like to pursue too. |
YAY !! congrats cant wait to see pics !! |
Congratulations!!! Magic and Sailor might be put out a little, but the new pup will want to play with them and hopefully, they will soon all three romp around together. |
My two little girls are 2 years old and are both spayed so that won't be a problem at all. We took them both out to see the Silkys yesterday and you could tell they weren't too sure but I am sure they will grow to love the new little boy...esp. Sailor as she will have someone who loves to play as much as she does. |
1 Attachment(s) Here is a picture for him...we don't have a name picked yet. |
He is gorgeous!!!! He needs a fancy schmancy name if he's going to be a show dog!! |
Ohhhhhhh.....CONGRATS Kristin!!! He is sooooooooo handsome! I agree w/ Jodie.......he will need a fancy name! And you know, if you have a hard time coming up w/ one, we are all here to help!!! hee,hee I think Magic and Sailor will just love him.....sure, it might take some time, but I bet they will just love to have him around. Mojo was always the only "furchild" for a long time and he didn't know what to think when we got our german shepard, but boy, does he love her! As well as the other big dogs now too! Good luck and can't wait to see even more pictures of him when you bring him home!!!! |
We have finally decided on a name for him. It took a lot of time to come up with a good one because both of our girls names come from Jimmy Buffet songs so we had to follow the tradition. AKC Name: PrimeBlue Last Mango In Paris Call Name: Captain Tony -- "Captain" This is another one of Buffet's song. PrimeBlue is the breeder we are getting him from and since he will be co-owned we have to use that first for his name. But it all seems to fit together. We can't wait to bring him home and trying to learn how to crate train and everything, since he will be a show dog he will need to learn how to be crated. |
How cute is he!!! |
awww what a cutie !!! i cant wait to see him grow up ! |
Congratulations!!! He is super cute!!! I am so happy for you all!! |

That sounds good! I don't understand the "show world" or how he will be co-owned, but the names all go together well! |
He is gorgeous. Before I got my Yorkie, I saw a Silky at the Farmers market and talked to the lady about him. I was very interested in them because of their size being a little larger( I have 5 grands ages 1-6). But I did get lucky and my Yorkie Chewie is a teapot at 15 lbs. I wish you all the luck with your new baby boy! Welcome Captain!! I am also a parrothead! |
