syberian husky dog
 

Just wondering,does anyone have experience with syberian husky dogs? My fiancee wants one,but i am unsure of the breeds temperment and also worried about my babies, Of course we will be doing proper research into the breed before buying one,just wondered if anyone has one? thanks :)

i hear they are great dogs. great temperment too.. i used to own a
shepard husky,,, gorgeous...i miss him.. his name was butch...

My neighbor (who was never home and left the dog to my care almost all the time) used to own a Siberian Husky, blue eyed gorgeous girl, she really was my best friend for a time. It is so hot here, though, soooo hot where we live that the owner let the dog live with family who lived in the north. I was sad, but agree that was what was best for the dog.

My ex owns one..he was HYYYYPER as a puppy..hes mellowed out as hes grown up, tho. They are absolutely GORGEOUS! They shed like crazy though...

I also own a Husky, she is a great dog, she was very gentle with my Kloey, Kloey would always tug on her tail to get her to play, it was so funny, she never once nipped at Kloey. The only thing I can tell you about Huskies is, once you get them fixed they become lazy and gain weight, so you want to make sure you walk walk walk walk them and let them run run run.
Malahn is my girls name and she is the black and white dog in my avatar, I also have had her since she was a pup so I think that helps.

My son has a 4 month old puppy named Ace. He is the calmest puppy I have ever seen. (Even the vet said this). He is adorable. I showed Kobe to him and he never did a thing. Kali is to small and wild to introduce them. Ace hates the hot weather. But loves water. I bought a small pool for him today.

My cousin has a beautiful SB. Very gentle and loving. The only down side is they shed A LOT! It's like tumble weed ... blowing across your living room and kitchen. :) But if you don't have allergies and can deal with the shedding, I'd highly recommend them. They have the most beautiful eyes too! :)

Wow with all the walking I will be doing with this dog (if we get 1), I might actually lose some weight :cheer: I do think they are beautiful dogs, but I have never had a big dog in my life so I am a little nervous. But after hearing all the good vibes on this thread, Im getting keen! I will keep you posted! Malahn is gorgeous and a lovely colours. Thankyou :)

That is a bit of a down side, although I guess we will have to invest in one of those hoovers, specially designed for pet hair, I know I totally adore their eyes, Is it true that their eyes glow red when they are mad:confused: Or is that just my fiancee widing me up :rolleyes:

Aww I hope mine will be relativley calm :) I think a husky would be fine in Englands climate (I cant even call it climate its just dark days and rain!) :rolleyes: Do you have any pics of Ace? :D

I tried to give you detailed advice of my experience. A little history .
I raised one breed before yorkies.........Siberian huskies..........many yrs ago.
...........If I have one tid bit of advice I would be allowed to share.........dont raise them together.
Siberians by nature are predictors. Beautiful, graceful, elegant but predators.

Sorry I don't have any pictures of him. They don't live with me. I also bought him the poochie bells to use. He showed him how to ring them twice. He has been ringing them since when he wants to go outside.

Do you know about raising Siberian huskies?

I know from direct experience.

I want to say one thing.............please do not raise yorkies and siberians together. (including (cousins) malamutes)

I use to have 2 of them ..they are strong willed dogs ..workers ya know and so they tend to have a mind of there own ..sorta like yorkies ..hehe so training can be difficult ,but they are so smart ., just think they know whats best .I never had mine around other dogs so I am not sure how they would be with a yorkie .My huskies where named Nanishka and Nickida they both lived to be 19 yrs old ..and Nicky as we called him was nanny's daddy so when she was pup we had no trouble .

My Siberians were named Sheena, Shasta and Bear.
They were very smart. But aggressive.
Maybe it was just my line of dogs.

when I would take Malahn and Kloey both for walks at the same time, you would not believe the responce I get from Malahn, and poor baby Kloey would be like.. Hey look at me down here, I'm real cute, say Hi to me!
But everyone is drawn to Malahns eyes, they are ice blue.
But now that people say how hyper they are as pups, it's coming back to me, she was very hyper till she was about 2 and we got her fixed, once we got her fixed she became so lazy. so just keep her/him walking and you should be fine.

Thanks everyone for the replies, We have decided that for the time being,we are not going to get one, However when we move to a bigger place, (bigger garden) it might well be a possible. I really want to go and check out my local shelters as I have never met one in real life before, so I think it would be a good eye opener. Well you said you weren't going to get one right now but I figured I'd go ahead and post what I know about them for the heck of it.

I own a sib. Husky/Germ. Shepherd mix. He is a bit tempermental, a lot of people have said that is the Shepherd in him though. He's very stingy with his food and doesn't like anyone around it. We've been working on him with this though and he's getting better with me and my husband but that's it. He isn't over weight in the least in fact he is underweight. We are actually having problems with him on this. He is the most playful of all our big dogs and is 9-10 years old, I have a 7 yr old lab and a 2 yr old Bloodhound. Anyway even though he can get a little moody he is great with little dogs, all dogs in general. Once before we had Reagan a Shih Tzu came up and Bosco was out in the yard. I didn't know the other dog came up and I look out and Bosco is draggin the dog around. Now I know you are think oh my gosh he's dragging the dog around, but he was just playing, really he was. If he had wanted he could've hurt the dog and wasn't he would tug on it a little then let it go to run around then he'd chase it and such. He really don't like Reagan though, I thought he'd love her but nope. I guess its not that he hates her he just doesn't like her. He just ignores her. As far as his coat I will say I live in the South and have all that great Heat and humidity but I will never own another Husky again, at least not down here. Its not about the shedding either, he just gets so hot I feel so bad for him. He was my sister's dog but now he's mine. Now like I said he's a mix but I've always heard more about the Shepherd's being aggressive or maybe not even aggressive but just protective, than the Huskies.

I used to take Edie to work with me, and a co-worker would often bring his Husky. He used to chase Edie down and he was rough....I had to keep them apart.

I would never bring a dog like that into my home if Edie was there. They are too big and can be too rough, even if they are just playing. It only takes one time (and a few seconds) for a large dog to kill a little Yorkie. It might be an accident---perhaps they were just trying to play, but that would not make me feel better if I had a dead Yorkie on my hands.

Sorry to be so negative, but a very dear friend lost her Yorkie to a Golden Retriever who never displayed any aggression. It only takes once. I am not willing to take a chance.:thumbdown

In my opinion if you get a husky as a pup to be raised with the yorkie they may be ok, my husky is very mellow and never tried to hurt Kloey, Kloey hurt Malhn more, she was the rough one, so I think it just depends on the dog. But the problem is when you get them as a pup, there so darn hyper.

I think it's a tough decision, I am quite happy with my yorkies, I have been brought up around them since I was 1 day old, and although I like other breeds, I am so blessed with my babies. It's more my partner that wants one, I think he wants a dog of his own, the babies are both of ours, but they all love mummy best :p . I know that he would never get 1 if there was the slightest chance of 1 of our babies getting hurt, I just feel bad as he has always wanted one.I will ask him if he wants a chihuahua instead:D

Years ago my dad brought home a husky he "found". The dog was probably about 1 yr old. He was as gentle as can be but also had a hunting side to him. He was great with humans, but a couple of times we let him in the back yard and some unfortunate cat, skunk, squirrel etc. had ventured in our yard at the wrong time and he caught them. And fast!
Yet he could gently take items out of your hand!
One morning mom made eggs and left the shells in the garbage. The dog must have been mad that we all left him. He went into the garbage took out the shells without crushing them and brought them into the living room. How gentle is that!
As l recall, he liked to pull when he was walked!

He was a great dog! Best dog we ever had! LOL with your search!

Thanks thats so sweet, i am worried about the hunting side. it makes it difficult to know what to do, the general sensus seems to be poitive :thumbup:

we have a pet squirrel who lives out side and in are garage, we have a display case for him and he comes and goes as he pleases, my husky has never hurt him but we also watch her when she is outside with the squirrel, are husky has killed a rabbit before, I think it's just there nature to hunt and to keep wild animals out of the yard.
the thing I dont like about are husky is the shedding, I want to get new carpet but as long as she is inside there is no use, she sheds like crazy.

Here is what i can tell you.


We raised our Sheeba from a new pup and she was GREAT with small children and my small dogs. She was sweet, not a bit tempermental and BEAUTIFUL. She was a soid white with ice blue eyes.

They do tend to jump alot ,like most big dogs do , but if you stop it from the beginning with firm push downs and no's it will be OK. Sheeba was SMART to. She never chewed anything up in the house and was very calm inside as we trained her that way from the beginning a. AND she was smart enough to get it from the beginning as I believe the breed is prett intelligent. Sheeba is 2 now and she is finally in FULL COAT and quite a looker.

I forgot to say. yes there is quite a bit of shedding but we realized it was worst when she was taken from very hot to air conditioning. We also found a quick brush through at least once a day TRULY made the all over shedding much better. During the cool times shed shed MUCH LESS
