Fat Puppy anyone have ideas for a low fat diet for a pup? I have a Chihuahua/Spitz mix.... . yea, what a mix... she is SO FAT. She doesnt eat any different than the other dogs and they are fine.... I considered a medical problem but the vets(I have taken her to 3) say not... She is the total Prima Donna of the house and doesnt move around much but the others are quite the couch potatoes too.... she has bad knees which of course the weight doesnt help... any ideas? d |
Puppys tend to be 'fat'. They have huge bellies and extra skin so it appears that they are fatter than that really are. I would not worry about it and just let her mature a little and I would expect all the puppy fat to go away, or for her to at least grow into it. |
:lol tears :lol tears Aggie was determined by her vet to be a little Pudge a while back. We had to cut back her food intake little by little. Boy, she was NOT happy. It turned out when I asked the first vet how much food we should give her, I heard her wrong. I thought she had said 2 tablespoons EVERY meal (4 feedings per day) but she meant 2 tablespoons DAILY. Oops. Aggie was only 2 months then. What a goon I am....lol. |
I've heard adding green beans to the food helps alot - it gives them a sense of fullness and helps them lose weight because they aren't eating so much. |
Thanks! I never thought of green beans... she is not a puppy, she is 5 years old, just lazy and too spoiled... what kinds of food do ya'll recommend?? d |
Can we see a photo please :D |
I have a pom who is 12 .5 lbs and the vet wants her to lose 2 lbs! She really doesn't eat that much but she is very inactive. I was feeding her Cesars now I am switching her to Merricks and 99% fat free chicken breast. |
