Magic is ageing and ailing He is over 11.5 yrs old in a breed whose average life expectancy is 10-12 yrs, My beautifull strong boy now has troubles with stairs n slippery surfaces. It is hard to watch. He is on some meds which are helpfull, but I do know our time is short. We have been to the vet 3 times and the consensus is old age. No one can escape time He is my heart dog and I do not know how I will live a life without him in it!! |
I am so very sorry. I understand the joy and anguish of living with an elderly fur family member. Just cherish every moment. We had a similar journey with Boo the Boxer, who had an expected life span of 10 - 12 years but was with us for 15. We lost her 7+ years ago, and my heart still aches. Please know that your family is in my thoughts and prayers as you travel through the last leg of your journey togeher. |
It is a sad reality that we all will most likely go through this. All the years of joy and happiness that they bring us make it that much more difficult to watch them go the Rainbow Bridge. Like chattiesmom said cherish the time you have left. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and Magic. |
I watched my girl go deaf, blind, early dementia signs, loss of bladder control, heart breaking to see, but my love for her grew stronger each and every day. When she wasn't sleeping I would hold her and love her up I knew my time with her was coming to an end but I wouldn't let myself dwell on that. When I had to let her go at 17 yo I was devastated, how could I live without her. Love your Magic and cherish every day he is with you, we all know that that day has to come, but we are never prepared for it (((hugs))). |
Thank you all so much, your very kind words and thoughts mean much to me I am a bit sleep deprived I spend half the night up with him doing a variety of healing touch modalities He is becoming very spoiled and not liking it when I am away. His food fixation is now off the charts. He still obeys his basic obedience commands but we had a situation a few days ago. I forgot to check the area and well a big dog of some uncertain mix came through the walkway on a bloody flexi lead , and attacked my boy! Magic went down! I was incensed and roared like a lion at that dog. Stood in front of the attacking dog and blocked every rush. Finally the owner got his bloody dog under control - before I dropped kicked that beastie to the ground. Trust me when I say I dont want to hurt another dog - but I will not let my dog be hurt!! Usually my voice roar works.... He is my partner he protected me for years - became my service dog. He deserves the very best I can do now and he will get it!! |
