Standard Poodle - Gallbladder cancer Hello all, My mom just found out yesterday that her 10.5 year old standard poodle, Wesley, has advanced gallbladder cancer that is "aggressive". They are giving him 2 weeks - 1 month. He had not been eating well, along with increased weight loss. His blood work showed his liver was upset, and the ultrasound confirmed the cancer in his gallbladder. I just wanted to see if anyone had experience with this, as I refuse to think that he has such a short time. He is a happy guy, who is still rolling around on the bed and playing normally. He is literally her "angel dog" - brought to her at a time when God knew she needed a guardian angel, even if he was covered in hair :) |
This breaks my heart....I am so very sorry for what your momma and you are going to be facing/dealing with in too short a time. My heart breaks for you.....God bless you all.... |

I have had experience with an aggressive form of lymphoma and the prognosis was very poor I elected to go ahead with cancer treatments in the hope of my young lass surmounting the odds. The thing with dogs is that they are relatively well and then very very ill - even suddenly overnight. Weight loss especially coupled with a diagnosis of cancer is unfortunately one of the hallmarks of this scourge called cancer. Unfortunately Tink the vet is quite likely right. They don't give these timeframes without applying their vast experience...... My heart goes out to you and your Mom. |
Thank you for your replies. I am very sad for her. He is "The Best Dog" she's ever had, and it is very hard for her. She is making him all of his favorite foods, and he is happy -0 still wagging his tail. I was trying to buy him some supplements, but she declined - she did not tell me that the cancer has spread to all of his other organs. It is amazing how one special pup can make such a difference in someone's life - just trying to be thankful for having him, and the impact he has made. I have never seen a dog like him, never knew a stranger, and the happiest pup I've known. Please keep my mom and Wesley in your thoughts and prayers. |
