My beautiful cat who hates my beautiful dog.. 1 Attachment(s) I really wish they'd get along and they do for the most part. However, this cat stalks my dog relentlessly every moment of the day so that I can't leave them together unsupervised for fear there will be an accident due to my cat's high prey drive, territorial issues, etc. My big boy cat is 12 today and I love him so much. xxxxxxxxxxxx Happy birthday Mr G. Maximillian! |

Happy Birthday to your handsome boy! I have a 15 pound 5 yr old female cat Roxy that is such a Diva. She grew up with my two dachshunds before they passed away, however she was alone with us for 3 years before we got Remy. My biggest fear was that she would not ever welcome him. In the beginning she was so over him and would go after him. I had to watch both of them like hawks. I must say that now she has realized that he is here to stay and she has finally come around. Remy is so mesmerized with her and constantly goes after her to play. She has now embraced his presence, tolerates him and lies on her back in the family room to play with him. Since she was little I have put the gel nail caps on her nails so she wouldn't scratch the mess out of my two boy dachshunds and the furniture. I still put the gel caps on her for safety because when she plays her claws come out. However, when I have to leave Remy at home I do not leave them together. More so, because Remy looks for her and doesn't leave her alone. I put Remy in his pen in another room and close the door. I still don't trust them alone together yet. Hopefully in the future it won't be an issue. I am very happy that she has come around and tolerates him jumping in her face, following her, giving her kisses and chasing & playing with her. One thing I did when I first got Remy was I let Roxy in the room where I have his pen while I was in there so she could get use to him. She would hiss & swat at the pen with him in it but eventually that stopped. It took some time to acclimate them but it worked. I still watch them very closely. Give it time and hopefully he will come around. |

Wow, thank you for this! Remy and Roxy's progress gives me hope! I can honestly say that Teddy and the cat are getting along better which I think is down to more exposure to each other in the day. I have recently quit working but when I was working it meant that they were separated for the majority of the day so when they did see each other, in the evenings, Teddy was super hyper which I think freaked my cat out. I'm not sure they'll ever cuddle like a Hallmark card but they seem to be playing a lot more and testing boundaries so, as long as there is no blood, that's the best I can hope for. Like you, though, I would not leave them unsupervised. |
Your cat is beautiful! I hope they get along better in time. |
This reminded me of the first time Teek met my daughter's cat. My daughter has a 7 lb cat that looks like a kitten but she is 9 years old. Teek is a 7 lb Yorkie and also 9 years old. So, the cat was in my daughters room and my daughter was gone for a week so I went in there to feed the cat and took Teek with me. I set Teek on the floor and the cat was there. This cat loves dogs so I wanted to see how Teek reacted to the cat. Teek very calmly went to sniff the cat and the cat hauled off and slapped him across the face! Teek went and sat in the corner of the room by the door until I was finished feeding the cat. Not sure how good of friends they are going to be. The cat is not loose in the house though because my son, my husband and I are all allergic to cats so the poor cat is literally stuck in my daughters room all winter and allowed to go outside or back into my daughters room in warmer weather. Poor Teek, I felt so bad for him just sitting in the corner like he was being punished. He was so happy when I went over to him and picked him up and took him out of that horrible place with the mean kitty. |
