Well, what do we have here? 2 Attachment(s) Literally! We recently adopted a five-year-old dog from the local shelter, and I'm not sure what we have adopted. lol :animal-sm:scratchhe:thinking: Attachment 398109 Attachment 398110 We know he's (a) a dog, (b) having neuter surgery in a few hours, (c) adorable and loved by his new owners (DH and me). The shelter told us they didn't know what he might be...so they said maybe he's a silky since he's bigger than the Yorkie they have. I've been looking at pictures of silky terriers, though, and there's some variety...but I'm just not convinced. "Finnegan's" face doesn't seem to resemble the silky in that silkies seem to have a longer nose with more projection over the lower jaw. His ears flop, but so do two and a half of the other four ears in the house, and they are on Yorkie noggins. His coloring is light like my off-standard male yorkie, but his saddle is silver/gray. He's twelve pounds and around twelve inches tall, very lean and muscular. The silky terrier seems to be lower to the ground and longer, unless the photos I've looked at are somewhat misleading. He points, like my little female Yorkie does, with his paw raised. He's highly energetic and smart, and we love him madly. I'm just not sure what to tell the groomer he is when he goes in for a much-needed haircut. I may just have the groomer give him a similar cut to the one my Yorkie male has. Any thoughts? |
what ever he is,he's a beauty. he kinda looks like a yorkie, nose is kinda short, silky's do have a longer nose. I would go with a yorkie cut. Good luck to you and your new lil boy Finnegan, he's just precious. |
I agree. Whatever he is, he is one handsome little guy!! :) |
He sure is a handsome little man. He does look like he has a Yorkie face. I have a "raise the paw to point" little girl. Glad to hear someone else has a pointer. I bet after his haircut he will look completely different than this picture. |
What a pretty boy! Looks like a Yorkie to me! |
Congrat's on your newest member. What a beautiful pupster Finnegan is, love his coloring and his eye's. Thank you for adopting from a shelter, sound's like he will have a blessed home from you and dear hubby. He sound's like he is very smart. What a .blessing it was that he found you. And by the way congrat's on your new addition. Anne/Luci |
He looks like a beautiful Yorkie to me. Congratulations, and thank you for rescuing him. |
Why not get his DNA done? It's not that costly and it's fun to find out what he is. He is adorable whatever he is. |
He looks like a Yorkie with maybe a little Shih Tzu? No matter what he is, he's adorable! I'm glad you're giving him a good home.:) |
Awwww, lucky you. He looks exactly like my Aunties AKC yorkie. |
Thanks, everyone! We feel so lucky to have found him and fortunate that we can offer him the kind of life our Yorkies enjoy. He's such a sweet dog that deserves better than he's had. He had his neuter surgery and is doing well. (Also, the vet said today he's ten pounds, not twelve, so not as big as I thought.) And I've scheduled his first appt. with my regular vet as well as a grooming appt. in two weeks with my male Yorkie so the groomer can just do the same sort-of-modified-Westie cut for both. I think he looks so much like a Yorkie, any other cut would be odd. Also, Finn has some staining on his fur toward the back from either being outdoors or in a dirty cage, so he's going to look worlds better once he gets the spa treatment. :D I'll post a pic when they get their brotherly haircuts. Can you tell I'm over the moon with my little pack of Yorkies and Honorary Yorkie? :dogwalk::doghop::animal37 |
He looks like a yorkie. He is adorable. I am glad he is doing well after the surgery |
3 Attachment(s) Thanks! I'm anxious to get him groomed, but his incision reminds me that healing comes first. His engraved name tag came in the mail today and it felt awesome to put it on the collar I got him that matches those of his Yorkie siblings. :) [Warning: one pic contains an image of his wound] Attachment 398191 Attachment 398192 Attachment 398193 |
he has same face my lil boy has, only diff. is mine has stand up ears. These pics his nose looks more like a yorkie. He looks like a sweet lil boy. You were all blessed to find each other. How have your other pups accepted him. |

Finn's ears are weird--they seem to have really strong cartilage at the bottom (they make a pop noise if mashed out of shape)--I wonder if they'd have stood up if groomed correctly when he was a puppy. His first grooming went reasonably well. Only a few things were beyond his threshold of tolerance; the groomer was very patient and loving with him, and he assured me that we made a great decision rescuing Finn. Despite Finn's fearfulness, the groomer said that all he had to do was pause and "love on him" because, above all, this rescue "just wants to be loved." We'll work on his tolerance of hair dryers and nail grinders--I have both at home and can start with just the noise to get him used to it. It's hard to get pics of Finn because, unlike Keegan Riley who comes running at the beep of a camera and hams it up, Finn wants nothing to do with it. I tried to get decent pics of his first haircut...but none were really good. I made a comparison of his shelter photos and his more recent ones: Attachment 398616 |
