Question for fellow Cockatiel Owner Anyone else have a Cockatiel? I have an egg-laying question! Our bird Aussie...she's 2 1/2 has been constantly laying eggs...will lay 2 or 3, then do it over again in about 3 weeks. Is this normal? My previous Cockatiel, Piper, would only lay eggs twice a week. Problem with Aussie is, when she is laying eggs, she is very protective of them and wants nothing to do with us and will "attack" us for a good 24 hrs or so after we remove the egg. (We don't have a male.) Obviously, this is not fun. :( Any info would be great! :) |

We use to have Cockatiels. I don't remember them doing this. Our female would lay eggs I don't remember how often. But, she did get very aggressive toward us when she did lay them. Have you talked to a vet to see if they can shed any light on this for you? Please keep us posted. |
There is no exotic animal vet here...not anymore. :( I left a message for the lady who bred her, but have not heard back. It just seems abnormal to me for it to be constant and her to constantly be aggitated, don't you think? |

I don't remember doing anything extra or different for a momma cockatiel except food. It was very exciting to see new birds come out from their nest box. Although we had a huge avery to keep them all in (my husband loves birds). |
We use to have cockatiels. Ours would lay 2 times a year we had mommy and daddy and kept one of the babies. Then one day daddy went out the door, I missed him so much he talked very good as he few over my head he said Debbies a geek lol.some thing my hubby taught him to say.I miss him so much and still do. I eneded up giving the other two to my inlaws.I know they say tame birds can not live in the cold. My sister lost her male cockatiel after I did and the same way I did. She use to cry and worry over him for two years she did this then one day while sitting out on her patio he landed on a branch above her head , He wouldnt get any closer but he sit and sang the andy Griffit song to her then said his good byes, She said she prayed she would see him some day so she would just know he was ok. what a blessing I wish my pretty boy would of come back to me. |
Debbie, you have my sympathies...I had a parakeet (G-Money, only cause I got him from stripper who didn't want him anymore) and I loved him soooo much. Just a little blue parakeet. He flew out the door and ate some berries and went on his merry little way. :( I cried for days over that stinking little bird! BTW....what a shock, guess what I came home to today...yep ANOTHER STINKIN EGG AND ONE MEAN LITTLE GIRL! Time to get the soup ladel out again  |
