shih tzu with a stinky face Maybe someone here can point me in the right direction. I also have shih tzu and her face stinks due to her eyes tearing. Our groomer said the only way to solve the problem was to shave her face regularly however in between groomings it starts to stink again. It's so bad we can't even stand to have her face near ours. Does anybody know anything to wash her face with that will eliminate or at least reduce the smell? Thanks. |
The stinky is from bacteria building up from the eye discharge.. Wipe her face/eyes twice a day with a warm wet wash cloth.. If this doesn't help then it may be an infection that needs antibiotics to clear up.. |
we do wash her face at least once a day and it doesn't help. we've asked the vet and he didn't seem overly concerned, also, after we have her groomed and the hair is shaved from her face she doesn't stink until maybe two to three weeks later. is there anything we can wash her face with to help? is this the only breed with this problem? |

she's been on several different things. she started on Iams, we switched her to royal canin, and now she's eating chicken soup. we're going to a new groomer on monday, i'll see what she says and then i'll take her to the vet. |
I believe that I read on here that red beet pulp can cause heavy tear stains..or maybe it could be some kind of allergy or infection causing her to tear excessivly. I do know that it isn't normal to have a stinky face and I would get a second opinion if you don't get anywhere with your regular vet :) |
Give your dog distilled water to drink instead of tap water. The trap water had minerals that cause the staining and smell. It also helps to produce less tears. This is especially helpful for light colored dogs that have the red face staining. |
