My Husband's Dog

I thought you were my husband's dog,
I never considered you mine.
You poop where you're not supposed to,
And when he is gone you whine.
You peed on my vintage rug,
And give me aches in my head.
You ate the entire sole of my shoe,
And vomited it up in our bed.
You howl in the middle of the night,
Usually when you hear a stray cat;
I wake up dazed and confused;
You were like an annoying gnat.

This morning we sat with you at the vet
For your neutering time is now due.
I thought I'd be glad for free time,
That was until the tech came to get you.
You wriggled and squirmed and said "heck no,
don't take away my balls!"
With a smile and nod we left you there,
And since then I've done nothing but bawl.
I fell apart in the car,
and I'm worried sick with fear.
I haven't been the same all day,
I just want your furry butt here!

You can come home and poop in wrong places;
The slobber in my shoes - I miss.
I'd gladly clean up loads of your vomit,
Just to have one little kiss.
I look down and two are there,
So strange to not see three.
I pray they will be calling me soon,
I want you home with me!
So there it is little nuisance,
All here in black and white.
I took for granted you being here,
And now I have seen the light!

My husband's dog you may have been,
But now you surely are not,
For there is a special place in my heart,
And only you can fill that spot!
I can see crystal clear now,
Upon purchase he was over the moon.
I am now the one,
Who CAN'T wait to see you this afternoon!

Written by me and dedicated to Shamrock, "my husband's dog", a Sheltie - who was taken to the vet's to be neutered this morning. I miss him like crazy and I'm worried sick about him - never in a million years would I ever think I loved that puppy this much - didn't know I did.
