This is my all-time favorite photograph of Cassie. She was a young lady at the time. If you look close you can see that the right eye points out a little more that the left one. I wonder if that is a factor. Maybe muscle weakness? I again say "Damned puppy mills." http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/alb...pictureid=2391 |

Lou, I'm just seeing this. Cassie is beautiful just the way she is. You are both in my thoughts and prayers. Wishing her a speedy recovery, we all know how much our babies mean to us. |
You have such a precious little girl, and I am hoping that, once Cassie is free of her pain, she is feeling much better. |
Awwww, she is a cutie pie, that is a good pic of her:) She still just as cute now. Glad that surgery was a sucess, may she have a speedy recovery and hope she gets used to navigating around;) |
Lou, I Love that picture. I have a little male ShihTzu & he has the SAME eyes & look that Cassie has in that pic. They are very sweet little dogs & very faithful too. My Taylor is only 9 lbs & he's a black & white but those eyes, shih's have the most endearing eyes. I'm so glad she is doing well & look forward to hear the end result report. Keep up the good work, Cassie knows she is Loved. |

I did not know that cataracts lead to glaucoma. My George has cataracts in both eyes. I had taken him to an opthamologist some time ago to inquire about removing them. The surgery could not be done because the opthamologist told me that often cataract surgery will lead to glaucoma. The surgery can increase the pressure in the eye. Since my George already had some issues with pressure (he does not have glaucoma), the opthamologist said he was at high risk if the surgery was done. His cataracts are heavy now and he cannot see. Thankfully, he has not developed glaucoma. |
I am just seeing this. Your little Cassie is a real cutie pie! I am so sorry she has had to go through all of this. Am glad to hear that the surgery went well. I'll keep her (and you) in my prayers. Please keep us posted. |
After I took Gracie out of the shelter & discovered that she had cataracts my vet in Ca. suggested I look into an opto as Gracie was so hyper that it would benefit her to have them removed if it werent too late & too far progressed. Gracie had severe eye infections & her eyes were completely covered in thick green gook so badly that you could not see any part of her eyes, I did not discover that she was blind till after I got her home & bathed her & cleaned her eyes. We went to see an opto but she was not a candidate for surgery as the cataracts had done too much damage to the blood vessels in the eyes. The cataract can get so thick that it will choke off the blood vessels & this will cause glaucoma to happen almost over night. I was also told that in these cases that Most of the time Glaucoma meds will not work & they did not work in Gracies case. I have been trying to find it & can't but I think it was around a year ago or so that someone here on YT has a Papillon who had cataract surgery & was successful. |
I'm so glad this thread is providing some information for all of us. I will be watching Cassie's other eye very closely. My advice is to just check the eyes every day and watch for redness. Don't hesitate to get them to the doctor. Cassie looked like she might have gotten soap in her eye from the groomers when I first noticed it and I let it go because it cleared up a bit for a while. I didn't notice at first but the eye was also buldging. (Go figure on a shih tzu! LOL) Guess who was right in with the pack to greet me at the door last night!!!!! Her tail was wagging and she acted like she couldn't wait to be picked up and hugged. I stil had to carry her out to go potty but she found her way back in without too much trouble every time. That is one step up to go into the utility room and THREE steps up to go into the kitchen! She did great. No bumping into things. Adie is a little rough with her when she thinks Cassie is heading the wrong direction but thankfully she listens when I tell her to stop. Dh said Cassie went to the food bowl at least three times yesterday and last night she was sitting up begging for bites from my steak. And YES she got them. I think she still hurts but she is so much better! Yeah! |
Great news that Gracie is on the mend! :) |
Wonderful to hear she is getting around well. I agree, she does deserve some steak! :) |
Oh Lou! I'm so happy for you and Cassie. I have the biggest smile on my face picturing you walking in the door and Cassie's wagging little bottom being right there to greet you. :D It's wonderful to hear that she's eating and feeling so much better all ready. Hugs for you both, :) Bonny |
Yeah !!! I'm so glad Cassie is feeling better. Just think of how much better she will feel once she is completely healed & her stitches are gone. |
How long do you suppose I will have to worry about injury. I guess what I mean is how long will it take to heal and when can I stop holding my breath? |
Quote:
Actually you could probably stop holding your breath after her recheck. |

If it were me, I'd want a re-check after a week or so just to make sure everything was healing correctly. Your vet should be able to tell you more then. |
Happy to hear that Cassie is doing well. |
Cassie's eye is a little less tender today, which made it much easier to put the ointment on. She didn't try to rub it off. She continues to be an exceptionally good little patient. :) I think there may be a slight increase in swelling so I am keeping me own eye on that, This morning in all the excitement of the first trip outside the little ones were barking their heads off AND TA DA! I heard little woofs coming from one very sweet little shih tzu! She has always hated getting out of bed in the morning so going and getting her wasn't limited to this period of time but she definitely wanted to be part of the crowd. Her confidence has increased tenfold. She didn't follow me around this morning but I found that "I" needed our cuddle time so we sat on the couch for a few minutes. It was so cute the little ones all came up to her one at a time to inspect her face. I'm sure the ointment was an interesting scent but they truly wanted to take advantage of her being held down by Mommy. (Their perception - not actual) I'm really squeamish about cleaning that eye and cringe at the thought of hurting her. I fear I won't do a good enough job and something bad will happen. I know I know - typical mommy thoughts . Anyway, things are going good. |
Now that's a GOOD update. You see, she's feeling Much better already. Job well done good Doggie Mommy;) |
What a Difference a Week Makes! 1 Attachment(s) The stitches are starting to dissolve so a couple of edges are sticking up but Cassie let me do a really good cleaning today. No flinching or pulling away. She is sooooo good and sweet I can't get over what a good little patient she is. I think she trusts me though so that makes a huge difference. She is wagging her tail again and begging for treats but the best news is that she has begun washing faces again! Skeeter is beside himself with joy. He is just thrilled to have his mommy dog back in business! |
Lou, that incision is looking really good! So glad to hear she is doing well w this and is back to her mothering! She is such a sweet-hearted little girl and you are such a good mommy caring for her so well! :) |
She looks terrific!! What a darling girl she is. :) |
I'm so glad she is going so well. She looks great!!!!! |
Cassie is beautiful! |
What a Fantastic update. Cassie is just too cute & I'm so happy to hear that she's feeling sooo much better. |
Cassie is getting better all the time 3 Attachment(s) Cassie is getting better all the time! She sees shadows but evidently not very clearly. Yesterday she was sitting up begging for food but she was looking at the fridge! Now I know I've gained some weight but not THAT much! |
