Rehomeing Questions? I am thinking about rehomeing my maltese. I thought I had someone who was going to take her but they have not. What questions should I ask the people I rehome her to? I have never rehomed a dog before. What kind of rehomeing fee should I ask? (it will include her teeth cleaning vet bill) Before I rehome her though she needs some puppy teeth pulled and a good teeth cleaning. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance. |
Look around at some breeder and/ or rescue applications and see if you can get some ideas for questions. You will want to know who lives in the house- kids, etc. If the people have ever owned dogs before and what happened to them. What they plan to do with the dog when they are at work and how long the dog will be alone each day. What will the people do with the dog if he/she pees on the floor, ruins something, etc. If they are prepared to exercise the dog daily. Are they prepared for vet bills, grooming bills, etc. Ask for a vet reference and groomer reference if they already own a pet- if not ask them to research local vets and groomers and to have a list of ones they are going to try. |
Please male sure she is spayed prior to placing her. Why are you thinking about rehoming her? |
She just isn't the right kind of dog for me. I was going to try and get her spayed when I get her teeth cleaned |
Why don't you list her here in the Yorkies Needing New Homes forum? If she is under for a dental the spay should be relatively cheap. How old is she? Yorkie Rescues & New Homes Needed - YorkieTalk.com Forums - Yorkshire Terrier Community |
Is this the same one that just had puppies a few months ago? |
Yes she had puppies a few months ago. The puppies have since been rehomed. I don't have the time needed to breed dogs. But she isn't the right kind of dog for me, I could keep her but I don't think that is what is right for her. I want to find someone that fits her better then I do. |

Also, maybe you could elaborate on why she isn't the right dog for you, it might help determine what kind of household would be suitable for her. |
She does not like to be on a leash, she hates going for walks, she isn't very playful, she hates the grass. She is more of a lap dog, she loves to be with you at all times. She is also very prissy. Sorry if that is all the negatives. |

I'm sorry it hasn't worked out, and I hope she finds a wonderful new home soon. PLEASE, do make sure she's spayed before you let her leave. |
