Blue Heeler and yorkie I've been looking for info on people who own heeler and yorkies and if they are compatible in the household. I would like a yorkie, but we have a heeler. Any info would help |
We had to have our blue heeler, Patch pts a couple of years back, she was 14 years old and outlived her litter mates by several years. She had always been our cattle dog and lived most of her life outdoors, she preferred being outdoors. I never got much of an opportunity to see how Patch would have lived with our yorkies as I hadn't had them very long at the time. But, I do know that Patch was the most wonderful dog we ever had as far as protectiveness, loyalty and even temperament. Patch, on two different occasions most likely saved our sons life, putting herself in danger to do so. One was a copperhead snake she alerted us to that my son was just about to step on, the other was a vicious dog, Patch kept away from our son until we could reach him. I wouldn't hesitate to own a properly trained blue heeler and a yorkie. |
I can only reply with our circumstances (not knowing your dog) but my heeler is best buddies with my Yorkie. They actually play very well together and keep me laughing at some of their antics. I give credit to my heeler for helping with yorkie training/guidance!! One very smart dog teaching another, it's worked for us. |
Thank you for the responses! But I think I will wait a little longer on getting my yorkie. Jackie is going to be busy with her Obediance class and then agility class. With all my time being devoted to Jackie's training, I dont think I will give a yorkie puppy all the attention it will deserve. |
I'm scared of Blue Heelers, everytime I am around one they nip at my ankles. Maybe they sense my fear. lol |
