Bichon Frise with diabetes In addition to our two Yorkies, we have a 12 year old Bichon Frise named Sassy. She has just been diagnosed with diabetes. We now have to give her two insulin shots each day. It has made a world of difference in her since we began the treatment and she is almost back to her old self! |
I'm glad Sassy is back to her old self. I have a Yorkie, Brooke that has a brain disease and she is on a prednisone and chemo therapy that will last for about a year and a half. Our babies rely on us for their whole being and when they are sick you really bond with them and they with you. My Brooke is my angel girl and I would do anything for her. I'm sure you feel the same about Sassy, it is hard dealing with diabetes but I know you will be strong and Sassy will be well for a long time. Good Luck. |
Thanks for the well wishes! Our biggest worry with her now is blindness. Our vet told us today that most dogs go blind within one year of being diagnosed. On the bright side, they seem to adapt well. Our yard is fenced in and we have a doggie door for them to come and go as they please. I'm sure the Yorkies will be a help her. All three of the dogs have bonded together and are very close. Don't know what we would do without our babies!!!!!! |
really glad to hear that Sassy is getting on well now. Im sure she will adpat ok if the worst happens and she loses her sight, but prayers coming your way that her eyesight stays good. I adopted a 6 year old ex-breeding puppy mill bichon 10 weeks ago. She is the most loving little girl and is getting on well with my yorkie. Considering the abuse she has suffered for 6 years, she is a real snuggle bum. I worry about her eyes as i dont think she sees very well. I pray that she will keep her sight so that she can enjoy her new life of freedom. Bichons and yorkies...the perfect doggy combination!! love from sue, molly and poppy. |
