Spicy had her cataract surgery yesterday! I brought her down to Camarillo (2 hour drive one way) Tuesday, checked into the Marriott and she had her surgery Wednesday. She did great. Both eyes were lazered, but only one could handle the new lens, but soon as she woke up, she was able to see again. I picked her up at 2:30 and brought her back to the hotel. She goes back for a check-up Friday, (tomorrow) then we head home. I'll be so glad to get back. I'm so exhausted. I will post some pictures of her tomorrow evening. I'm so happy that she can now see, and that I can look into her beautiful "brown" eyes instead of milky white ones. For those who don't know about Spicy, she's my Papillon. |
That is so great. I can't believe how much they can do for animals now that they would not even care to try years ago. Hope she continues to do well. Congratulations. |

Me too! It would be great if we were able to take advantage of this procedure for our kids. I have an old Schnauzer that sure could use this. |
wow, I didn't know that they could do this. So glad your baby can see again. I am sure she's loving it! I am so afraid that Hot Rod will develop cataracts. I know that he's only 2 1/2 years old but sometimes his eyes just look filmy. I can't explain it but he sees perfectly fine now. Don't know why I have this feeling but now I know there can be something done. |
That's great!! The rehome I took in 13-15 years old has very milky eyes and small cataracts and I was wondering if they do surgery on dogs that old? |

That's wonderful Spicy's surgery has given her sight once again. I know how devestating it is when a dog looses it's sight. How old is she? My grandpup, MinPin, age 12 went completey blind this past year. vet said nothing can be done. I'm happy for both of you that Spicy can once again see. |

Cataracts That is Awesome!! My little guy also has cataracts, however he is not a candidate for surgery. After going through all the test at the Animal Ophthalmology Clinic, they have determined that he has degenerative retina disease. Now we have a whole other issue going on. His lens is luxating and the cataract has slipped through the pupil and is being cinched like a belt causing the eye to bulge. So, we have 5 different drops now trying to keep him comfortable while trying to dilate the eye in hopes of the lens slipping back in place. We've gone back once and no change and are going back again right after the holiday. The only thing left would be, 1) if there is any space at all between the two, for the Dr. to try to manually massage it loose, which doesnt look good so far. 2) Remove his little Eye. Anyone else ever dealt with this? Would love to hear thoughts. |
