Meet our new dog, Kyrie the Alaskan Malamute! 1 Attachment(s) Well everyone... one turned into two, and two turned into three, and yep, you guessed it! Three turned into four. My goodness. My roommate's boyfriend's friends were moving and didn't have the room to keep their Alaskan Malamute, Kyrie. They were going to take her to the pound! Being the dog lovers we are, we told them that we would take her as a last resort and find her a new home. There was no way we were going to let her be euthanized or go to the first person with $40. SO we took her in. Well, we picked up her yesterday and I think she's found her permanent home. She is the most calm mannered, gentle large breed dog I have ever seen. At her previous home there was a long-haired miniature Dachshund as well as two toddlers and an infant so we knew she had no problem with small animals/humans. So far she has gotten along great with our dogs! Maggie pretty much ignores her which is a really good sign considering Maggie is very vocal towards other dogs. Franklin has already tried to dominate her and tries to hump her all the time. Luckily for him (and us ), she lets him. Roxie, my roommate's Chihuahua, is having a harder time. She's always been a spoiled brat though so hopefully she'll come around. I'm limiting their time together for now. I've never had a shedding dog before and man am I glad Yorkies don't shed! Kyrie is blowing her winter coat right now and it's ridiculous! We use a FURminator on her 5-6 times daily and she still sheds handfuls everytime. Hopefully it'll warm up today and we can give her a bath. That should help with the shedding. Wish us luck! So far, Kyrie seems to require little attention and I hope it stays that way. I'm trying to finish my last semester of college and study for the MCAT so I need as little distraction as possible! I've attached a picture of her. Isn't she just beautiful? You can't tell from the picture, but she's about 10lbs or so overweight currently so we have her on light food and plan to start walking her pretty regularly (I don't think she was walked before). |
Wow, beautiful dog! Thank God you took her in. Who knows what could have happened to her had she been dumped at the pound. She's beautiful! I know what you mean about shedding -- I take for granted that Jackson doesn't shed. Everytime I think I want a Golden Retriever or another type of dog, I think about all the hair! Eek! I hope we get to see many pics of her, Franklin & Maggie together. :) |
She's beautiful. That's great you are keeping her. |
