grooming at home  Ok so i took chewie for his shots at the vet and she told me i should have him groomed professionally. she said he needs histhe hair in his ears plucked and that i should have the hair on his face trimmed. i was trying to let his bangs grow so i could put them in a top knot, i tried to last week but they are still alittle too short(it looked like he had a face lift cause it was too tight) he didn't seem to be bothered by it. do they shave around the top of their nose? i asked her how topluck the hair and she said there is a ear powder they apply and just pluck it out with their fingers. has any one done this at home? i've made him an appointment at the groomer in two weeks any way. :aimeeyork |
After the initial grooming visit, it should give you a guideline and shell to work with. It's much cheaper to do it yourself and the more dogs you get the more money you'll save. some groomers will actually let you stay and watch how they do it. It's how I learned! |
I have gotten where I keep Maggie trimmed. I use round end baby scissors to keep the hair from sticking her in the eyes. I also use a battery operated bikini trimmer to trim around her little behind area. I use scissors to trim the top 1/3 of their ears. I also found Smart Clippers for her nails. NuTec For Pets makes them. It's the same company that makes Greenies. You pre-set the clipper for the length you want to nail clip. No more worry about cutting into the quick. Maggie still goes to the groomer for the ear plucking. I haven't even attempted that one yet. |
groomer We have had some recent threads about grooming problems..the groomer ignores the client. I would write down what you want..no cutting of the top knot or bridge of nose etc..make the groomer sign it and keep a copy for yourself. LOL You can pull the ear hair yourself with a clamp from the dog catalogs..and unless the ear hair is causing a problem like infections, I never pull it out..same with anal gland expression. Some things are best left alone if there is not a problem with them. |
I Havent take Gucci to the groomers yet. So far I have trim her myself, Of course is not perfect but is no so bad. I do have problems trimming her nails because she just turns into Cujo. I will have to try that electric nail clipper. I agreed with Pat, when you do take her to the groomers make sure you have what you want written down. |
Toby has never been to the groomer........ since he was a pup i have always done it myself, its easy once you get the hang of it |
